Introducing V-index
Today marks the launch of Veeam’s latest community effort, the . I’m very excited about this new offering as it gives the virtualization community access to a number of data points on the growth and adoption of virtualization. All of the research is conducted by , an independent company that Veeam has contracted to do the virtualization surveys. Please understand that the survey results are not those of just Veeam customers, Vanson Bourne has their own contact list of companies that they use for these surveys.

V-index is an online virtualization industry study performed by Vanson Bourne, an independent market research company. It is based on a survey of 500 enterprises across the US, UK, France and Germany and is designed to measure 3 parameters – virtualization rate, consolidation ratio and primary hypervisor in use.
So what do you get at V-index.com? First off, you get a quick look at virtualization adoption in a series of 3 different areas: penetration rate, consolidation ratio and Hypervisor in use:
You also get access to a series of that you can put on your own blog or website. The data behind these snippets will be automatically updated each time the v-Index is updated (currently quarterly). Here’s a sample snippet:
There are many different sizes and styles to choose from so feel free to pick the one that works best for your site. Also on the site is a page full of on the v-Index results. These infographics show the splits by country for each of the 3 areas in the survey:
Of course, you can also download the full in PDF format and also provide on other areas or data points you’d like to see in the V-index.

Veeam ONE Advanced Capacity Planning
Yesterday we made available for download our updated Capacity Planning for VMware as part of the Veeam ONE Solution. This update builds on the capacity planning that was already part of Veeam ONE and extends it address customer feedback and add new features.
Take the guesswork out of capacity planning
- Look beyond consolidation ratios and constraint-based optimization
- Analyze trends, perform what-if modeling, forecast and make recommendations to provide guidance for when, how and where to intelligently grow the virtual environment.
- Perform what-if analysis for adding custom VMs and hosts
- Analyze thin-provisioning and identify over-committed storage
- Provide recommendations for host and storage resources

Veeam Business View 2.0 released
Recently, Veeam released Business View 2.0. Business View is part of the Veeam ONE Solution that offers the convenience of a single solution for VMware management. It eliminates the need to evaluate, deploy and maintain tools from multiple vendors. Business View is a free tool from Veeam that presents VMware vSphere (and VI3) environments in terms that make sense to the organization, from the perspective of your business. This is surely different from the technical configuration, as administrators consolidate environments across various internal consumers. Even in the smallest organization, Business View can separate virtual machines (VMs), storage, clusters and host resources by departments; like accounting and engineering. For the largest VMware vSphere environments, Business View can be used to easily categorize configurations such as multi-tenant or a large organization with multiple departments.

New Report Pack available: Get to Know Veeam Reporter
We have released a new (and FREE!) report pack for Veeam Reporter, the Get to Know Veeam Reporter pack. Veeam Reporter allows report packs to be added to the installation as they become available. A good example of this is the Capacity Planning reporter pack, which was included with 4.0.1 release.

Introducing the Veeam Community Podcast!
We are happy to announce that we are now launching a new podcast! The Veeam Community Podcast is a new way to interact with the virtualization community. The podcast will focus on the many aspects of the virtualization community, and not entirely focused on Veeam.

Today, version 5.6 of both the Veeam nworks Management Pack and Smart Plug-in are available. The nworks Management Pack (MP) for VMware allows Microsoft System Center Operations Manager installations to monitor and manage the VMware vSphere installation. The nworks Smart Plug-In (SPI) for VMware provides monitoring and management of the vSphere installation as well for HP Operations Manager environments.
