SQL Server 2008 Backup Best Practices

Post by jeromyhensley »

I'm looking for some best practices in regards to SQL Server 2008 database backup and restores on Server 2008 R2. Traditional we've utilized SQL Server's backup agent for BAK files for backup/recovery purposes and developmental/testing purposes. We've always used the BAK file method because it made restoring or creating a test DB very straightforward in SQL server management studio.

Does anyone know what Veeam suggests/recommends for individual DB restoration?

Here's an example use case,
Let's say a developer wanted to test or troubleshoot a database error that occurred 4 days back. The developer would like to take the data that was contained in the database from 4 days ago and create a test database. Utilizing Veeam what'd be the best approach to extract the data from Veeam backup that was taken 4 days ago then taking that data, create a test database and restore the data to the test database?

Thanks,
Jeromy

You are essentially describing what v5 "On-Demand Sandbox" functionality does for you automatically, with just a few mouse clicks. I suggest that you review sticky FAQ topic, and view the corresponding recorded webinars. Thanks.
