VM Right-Sizing report fails with error "Query execution failed for dataset ‘AnalysisDS’"

Challenge

VM Right-Sizing report fails with the following error:

Query execution failed for dataset ‘AnalysisDS’. Error converting data type varchar to numeric.

Cause

The error occurs because of unsupported decimal separator format on the Collector machine. A dot (.) is expected as the decimal separator. If a comma (,) is specified as the decimal separator, the collected data cannot be converted to numeric. As a result, the Virtual Machine Right-Sizing report cannot be generated.

Solution

To resolve the issue, either set the English System Locale in Region and Language options or change the decimal separator setting in Region and Language > Formats > Additional settings > Decimal symbol (for Win 2k3: Region and Language Options > Regional Options > Customize > Decimal Symbol).

Make sure you change the decimal symbol for nworks collector service account.

Next, trigger full topology rebuild in nworks UI > Enterprise Manager > Rebuild Full Topology (available, when the Enterprise Manager node is selected in the left pane). Once the topology is updated, the issue will be resolved.

More Information

Note, that once the issue is fixed, the report will work from the day the first portion of valid data was saved to the database. The change of the decimal separator does not affect the data collected earlier.
