Veeam knows that many businesses support a dual hypervisor environment, and Veeam Management Pack now delivers the same features for both vSphere and for Hyper-V. Whether you have Hyper-V, vSphere or both, you will get the same capabilities with health and performance alerting, sophisticated reporting analysis and unique dashboards —integrated into the single-console view of System Center Operations Manager.
Dashboards can be launched in-context from any object in your Hyper-V or vSphere environment. They show live data and offer customizable Veeam widgets such as heatmaps, which offer at-a-glance visualization of multiple metrics. The aspects of size, color and grouping in a heatmap allow intuitive interpretation of the complex virtualized environment. And a customizable capacity planning widget adds real-time capacity forecasting to dashboards.
New on-demand Top dashboards add a traffic light feature to System Center. Built-in thresholds show the health status of performance metrics in the dashboard widget; and the thresholds can be customized to suit customers’ preferences. Green shows that the specific component is performing well, yellow shows that performance is not up to par, and red indicates that performance is poor.

Tracking the security configuration of vSphere hosts is required to confirm compliance with desired configuration and to understand that the critical vSphere environment is correctly secured. In Veeam MP v7, a granular view of vSphere host security settings is tracked and made available in Veeam’s advanced reporting engine. Each security setting, including firewall ports and enabled services, can be reported. All changes are captured—with drill-down into the specific events around each change, including the timestamp as well as the user who made the change.
Veeam Collector auto-deployment for vSphere
The Veeam back-end data collection infrastructure for vSphere consists of Veeam Collectors – a service installed on Windows servers. For failover and high scalability, multiple Veeam Collectors can be deployed. In Veeam MP v7, the Collector deployment can be completely automated. By leveraging the advanced System Center 2012 feature of Management Server Resource Pools, Veeam allows Collectors to be automatically delivered and installed to servers in the chosen Resource Pool. This greatly simplifies installation and allows fast deployment in even the largest enterprise environments.
Veeam Task Manager for Hyper-V
The Windows Task Manager tool is a long-standing administrator’s utility, built-in to Windows, to show in real-time which processes are using the CPU and memory in a server. However Windows Task Manager doesn’t show you what you need to know in a Hyper-V environment, because it simply doesn’t understand the new architecture of Compute usage in a Hyper-V Host. It’s not enough to know that memory is being used—you need to identify the VMs that are using it. Similarly, it’s not sufficient to show CPU use by just the host partition—you need to see the VM CPU usage too.
Veeam MP’s new Task Manager for Hyper-V gives you this important missing information—real-time host and virtual machine metrics that indicate how your Host compute resources are being used and which VMs are using them. You can launch the Veeam Task Manager in-context for any Hyper-V host and see immediately what’s happening in real time. Windows Task Manager was a valuable tool for system administrators—and now Veeam updates it for the world of virtualization.
Monitoring and reporting for Veeam Backup & Replication for Hyper-V
If you have a Hyper-V backup infrastructure, you can now take advantage of the same advanced monitoring, reporting and capacity planning for Veeam Backup & Replication that is available for vSphere environments. Whether you have Hyper-V, vSphere or both, you will be able to monitor your entire Veeam Backup & Replication infrastructure, including proxy servers, repository servers, WAN accelerators, backup jobs, and more.
In addition to basic monitoring, Veeam MP delivers advanced analysis reports for Veeam Backup & Replication, including Protected and Unprotected VMs, VM verification, Restore Operator Activity, Backup Copy job and Capacity Planning for backup repositories.
Storage, network and compute topology views
Separate topology views of distributed storage, network and compute environments allow you to quickly browse relationships and dependencies among your critical applications, services and supporting virtual and physical infrastructures. You can link from the topology view directly to real-time dashboards and monitor key metrics, such as latency, provisioning and utilization. And if you see an alert, you can link to the built-in knowledge base for expert advice.
New in v7 R2, if you have System Center agents on any VMs, you’ll be able to drill down in two directions for both app-to-metal and metal-to-app visibility. You can quickly identify apps being monitored on a specific VM to find services and applications that will be affected by compute, storage and networking problems. And you can navigate a topology tree to locate the host for a specific VM to see if there are any problems occurring below this level―whether in that specific VM, other VMs, host hardware or elsewhere.
Veeam MP leverages data it gathers by correlating and presenting it in reports that help you make informed technical and business decisions. Configuration tracking and alert correlation shows you detailed tracking of configuration properties for all objects, so you’ll know what has changed in your vSphere or Hyper-V environment. If there is an issue with resources or capacity, you will have a correlation of events to help pinpoint the exact cause.
Other analysis reports include VM Uptime Statistics which assists with SLA compliance reporting, Top Troublemakers that locates the ‘noisy’ objects in your environment, Idle VMs which finds ‘zombie’ VMs that are wasting resources, and Switched-off VMs that locates powered off VMs that are taking up valuable storage space. In addition, the reports for Oversized and Undersized VMs provide guidance in right-sizing and optimizing your virtual machines.

Multiple, distributed collectors can be scaled to monitor even the largest vSphere environments and in the event of a vCenter outage, Veeam MP automatically fails over and reconfigures so that data will be collected directly from vSphere hosts.
