Challenge

When you open the nworks Web UI in a browser, you see a blank screen instead of the logon screen/management screen. This renders nworks Collectors and the nworks Enterprise Manager unusable via the Web UI.

Cause

Security restrictions applied to the web browser prevent it from running static content. In order to function properly, the nworks Web UI requires the IIS Static Content feature to be installed.

Solution

To resolve the issue, add the nworks Web UI URL to the list of Trusted Sites in Internet Explorer configuration options (or configuration options of a preferred web browser). Next, check whether you have the Static Content feature installed for your IIS instance.

This particular error also happens if you do not have the Static Content feature installed on the IIS7 server where nworks resides. To resolve the issue, you should install the Static Content feature for IIS.

To install the Static Content feature for IIS7:

  1. Open the Server Manager console and navigate to Roles > Web Server (IIS).

  2. Go to the Role Services section and click Add Role Services.

  3. In the Add Role Services wizard, enable the Static Content feature in the Web Server > Common HTTP Features section.

  4. Click Next and proceed with installation of the component/feature.

The Static Content feature should now be available via the Server Manager console in the Web Server (IIS) Role Services section and should have the Installed status.

  5. Restart IIS7.

  6. Open the nworks Web UI.

More Information

When initially setting up IIS for the nworks Web UI, simply ensure that Static Content is part of your IIS installation settings.
