The error message "The name of the item 'xxxxx' is not valid" while saving reports

Challenge

SQL Server Reporting Services has some limitations on naming the objects.

The following is example of the error which may pops up while trying to save a report in Veeam Reporter:

Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services Error: System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: The name of the item 'Infrastructure Report_Preview_REPORTNAME$' is not valid. The name must be less than 260 characters long. Cause

SQL Server Reporting Services has some limitations on naming the objects.
The name of report contains some special character that SSRS does not support.

Solution

Change the name of report considering the following limitations:

An item's name cannot contain the following reserved characters
   ;?:@&=+$,\*<>|"/
Also, it cannot contain spaces.
