Veeam Backup for AWS CBT Potential Data Corruption

When you try to back up EC2 instances residing in AWS regions with the supported CBT mechanism, you may get corrupted backup data.

The issue occurs in AWS regions where Amazon EBS direct APIs for Snapshots are available.

When Veeam Backup for AWS performs an incremental backup session, and the new cloud-native snapshot contains a large block of existing but unmodified data, all changes in other data blocks following this block may be skipped.

To solve the issue, install the hotfix released by Veeam. We advise you to install this update as soon as possible.
Before you install the update, make sure you are running the Veeam Backup for AWS server version

To install the update, do the following:

  1. In the Veeam Backup for AWS configuration menu on the left, click Support Information.
  2. On the Updates tab, click Check and view updates. The Veeam Updater page will open.
  3. On the Veeam Updater page, in the Updates are available for this system section, select the check box next to the Veeam update package.
  4. In the Choose action section, specify the following settings:
    1. Select the Install updates now option.
    2. Select the Reboot automatically after install if required check box to allow Veeam Backup for AWS to reboot the backup server if needed.
    3. Click Install Updates Now.
