What is Veeam Agent for Linux?

Veeam® Agent for Linux a simple backup agent for Linux, designed to ensure the Availability of your Linux server and workstation instances, whether they reside in the public cloud or on-premises.

It is a standalone product and is not part of Veeam Backup & Replication™ or Veeam Availability Suite™. While Veeam Agent for Linux (all versions) optionally integrates with Veeam Backup & Replication, it is a standalone product that does not require the purchase of any other Veeam products to work. When combined with Veeam Availability Suite*, Veeam Agent for Linux** delivers the ability to manage and protect ALL workloads — virtual, physical and cloud — from a single Veeam pane of glass.


Can Veeam Agent for Linux be used to back up physical servers? Can it be used as an enterprise physical server backup tool?

Customers can use the FREE version of Veeam Agent for Linux to back up Linux-based physical servers, workstations and public cloud workloads. However, the FREE version does not include server-specific backup features.

Workstation and Server licenses of Veeam Agent for Linux are also available. Workstation and Server licenses include 24.7.365 technical support, and Server licenses also include server-specific features (e.g., application-aware processing, support for multiple jobs, etc.), making these licenses better suited to enterprise-level requirements.


Can I back up to a Veeam repository when using the FREE edition of Veeam Agent for Linux?

Yes, with the FREE edition of Veeam Agent for Linux, you can back up to a Veeam repository backed by a licensed Veeam Backup & Replication server. However, you cannot have both FREE and paid editions of Veeam Agents backing up to a Veeam repository at the same time — you must choose to use either all FREE or all paid agents.


Is there a minimum purchase requirement for Veeam Agent for Linux licenses?

Workstations licenses of Veeam Agent for Linux must be purchased in quantities of at least five (5). There is no minimum purchase requirement for Server licenses, which can be purchased in any quantity.


Can Veeam Agent for Linux license types be mixed when using with Veeam Backup & Replication or Veeam Availability Suite?

No, while Veeam Agent for Linux (all versions) integrates with the Veeam Backup & Replication, you must use either use all paid licenses (Workstation and/or Server) or all FREE licenses within a single installation of Veeam Backup & Replication.


What is Veeam’s support policy for Veeam Agent for Linux?

FREE licenses of Veeam Agent for Linux will be supported through Veeam’s FREE product support policy. According to this policy, Veeam will attempt to provide support for users, but does not provide response goals or response guarantees for this service. Workstation and Server licenses of Veeam Agent for Linux include 24.7.365 technical support for the term of the purchased license — from one (1) year to five (5) years.


What if I have an issue with Veeam Backup & Replication integration functionality?

If you believe the issue is not specific to Veeam Agent for Linux (for example, a general Veeam backup repository issue), and you have an active maintenance agreement, you can open a support case normally regardless of if the issue is related to Veeam Agent for Linux or Veeam Backup & Replication.
