What is the OpenShift Virtualization protection in Veeam Backup & Replication?
OpenShift Virtualization protection is native backup and recovery for the KubeVirt virtual machines running on Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization, built into Veeam Backup & Replication v13.1. Veeam discovers your OpenShift VMs through the KubeVirt API and protects them the same way it protects VMware vSphere VMs today, from one console.
Do I need to buy a new product or license to protect OpenShift VMs?
No. OpenShift Virtualization protection is included in Veeam Backup & Replication v13.1 and uses your existing Veeam Universal License, so there's no new product, SKU, or contract to add. If you already run Veeam Backup & Replication with an active license, you can extend the same protection to OpenShift.  
We're still evaluating OpenShift Virtualization. Should we wait until migration is done to plan backup?
Every migration is a change that introduces risk. Make sure you protect your VMs with Veeam Backup & Replication before the migration, during the migration, and after the migration. It is the best way to ensure end-to-end coverage throughout the migration journey. 
Can I use my existing backup repositories for OpenShift VMs?
Yes. OpenShift VM backups flow into the same Veeam Backup & Replication infrastructure you already run. Your existing repositories, retention, SLAs, and immutability settings apply to KubeVirt VMs automatically, so you protect a new platform without rebuilding your backup design.
How does recovery work, and can I restore individual OpenShift VMs? 
Yes. You can recover individual KubeVirt virtual machines directly from your existing Veeam backups, using the restore workflows your team already knows in Veeam Backup & Replication. Recovery options include Instant VM Recovery, so you can bring a VM back online fast and keep the business moving.
Does my team need to learn a new tool or console?
No. You manage OpenShift VM backups from the same Veeam Backup & Replication console your admins use today. VMware vSphere and OpenShift VMs appear side by side in one interface, so there's no separate tool to run and no retraining to slow your team down. 
How do I deploy OpenShift Virtualization backup?
Upgrade Veeam Backup & Replication to v13.1 or later. Download and install the Veeam KubeVirt Plug-in. Install Veeam KubeVirt Proxy within the OpenShift Virtualization cluster via a Helm chart. Configure Veeam Backup & Replication connectivity. Veeam inventories your KubeVirt VMs through the KubeVirt API, and you build backup jobs the same way you do for any other workload.
Can Veeam protect VMware and OpenShift VMs at the same time during migration?
Yes. Because OpenShift protection runs inside Veeam Backup & Replication, you can protect VMware vSphere VMs and OpenShift KubeVirt VMs together, from one console and the same repositories. There's no coverage gap mid-migration, so both environments stay protected in parallel until your move is complete.
How do I get started with OpenShift Virtualization backup?
Start by upgrading to Veeam Backup & Replication v13.1, which includes OpenShift Virtualization support.
