Stay resilient with smart replication

To remain resilient in the face of unexpected downtime, replication is a critical capability to help deliver the recovery time and point objectives (RTOs/RPOs) your business expects. But too often, organizations are faced with tough choices: leverage point-products outside of an existing backup strategy or hope for the best with legacy systems. Veeam’s four-in-one solution ensures you can deploy built-in replication when needed and move your data with maximum efficiency.
Maintaining uptime

Maintaining uptime where
it matters most

Tolerance for downtime is at an all-time low. You need help preparing for disaster with more data and less resources. Veeam helps you to keep running your business anywhere with less interruptions.
Be ready for disaster

Be ready for disaster and
unexpected downtime

When the worst happens, you need to know you can recover quickly, or you risk losing revenue and damaging your brand. With Veeam, you’ll find the capabilities, and the ecosystem of partners, to confidently face any situation.
Replication democratized

Replication democratized
for all

A solid disaster plan requires you to safely move your data off site, oftentimes a challenge due to large data sets, latency and internet traffic. Slow links, fast links, any size data — Veeam has you covered.

Be prepared for anything with replication and DRaaS capabilities

Replication built in replication

Reliable, Built-in replication

Employ replication to provide the best recovery time objective (RTO) values for your assets with a copy of your VM in a ready-to-start state.

  • Built-in replication with variable compression to best suit the job to be done, regardless of size or connection speed
  • Add efficiency to replication with changed block tracking (CBT) — only move changed blocks off site, reducing overall size and amount of traffic
  • Flexible and agnostic by design — reliably replicate backup data and VM replicas from any storage to any storage

Disaster recovery at your service

The cost and complexity of building a secondary disaster recovery site is a deterrent for many organizations. Veeam makes it easy to connect with one of our Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS) partners to provide an integrated off-site replication target, complete with everything needed to stay resilient in the face of a disaster.

  • Veeam Cloud Connect Replication, a built-in feature of Veeam Backup & Replication, securely connects your installation to the provider’s cloud repository
  • Execute a cloud failover seamlessly with a self-service portal that gives you access to your environment without interruption
  • Users of VMware Cloud Director can leverage existing hardware, networking and self-service schema to deliver DRaaS to internal or external customers

Capabilities orchestration

Put your replicas to work

Integrate your replicas into a failover plan with Veeam Disaster Recovery Orchestrator. One-click
site failover orchestration adds and arranges replica VMware VMs in a pre-determined boot order.

Capabilities wan acceleration cloud speed fast

Accelerate data movement

Data rapidly arrives to its destination, regardless of link speed, using built-in WAN Acceleration — combining compression, multi-streaming and deduplication with 256-bit AES encryption.

Technologies vm replica snapshot copy

Replicas on-demand

From a backup, Veeam Backup & Replication can create an exact replica of a VM natively in a spare VMware vSphere or Microsoft Hyper-V host, where it maintains sync with the original VM until needed.

FAQ

What is data replication?

Replication classically is to make an exact copy of something, and with data, it is no different. Where data replication differs from technology like snapshots is that replication is designed with the understanding that data is ever-changing — always being copied, appended to, overwritten or even deleted. Due to this inherent understanding, backup software can take advantage of replication technology to provide closer recovery point objectives (RPOs) and shorter recovery time objectives (RTOs) when compared to traditional backup and restore.

Veeam Backup & Replication obviously relies on its namesake to help you achieve your recovery goals in less time with minimal data loss. Every Veeam backup can have a replicated “replica” standing by as a VM in the cloud or at another site, ready to use at a moment’s notice.

What is the difference between backup and replication?

In the scope of data protection, a primary difference between backup and replication is the speed at which you can meet a recovery objective. When it comes to restoring from traditional backup, the recovery can often take as long, if not longer, than the original backup job. While this may seem long or excessive, there are many data sets out there that do not require short RTOs. For the applications, databases and other workloads that require not only short RTOs but also RPOs that minimize data loss, replication is the superior choice.

Veeam Backup & Replication offers the best of both worlds by providing choices based on your recovery needs. In addition to fast, image-based backups, Veeam provides built-in replication to help meet these tighter recovery objectives.

What are the advantages of data replication?

Data replication is very useful in recovery scenarios, specifically when facing tighter recovery objectives that require recovery targets measured in minutes versus days. As replication is typically based on time, transaction or change, it can more easily provide a consistent replica — even across long distances where it would take days to physically send the data.

Veeam Backup & Replication provides a unique approach to recovery by inherently leveraging replication to quickly and securely move backup data between sites. Built for speed, Veeam’s replication accelerates both slow and fast links to help your data arrive on time — and in time to meet your recovery objectives.

Does Veeam offer a replication-based Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS) option?

Yes! Veeam partners with a network of cloud and managed service providers in 180+ countries to deliver integrated off-site backup and DR options to customers.

Many customers look to “as a Service” offerings because they don’t have the resources, expertise or available focus to stand up a secondary site. DRaaS, instead, offers a cloud-driven disaster recovery offering that enables DR planning and failover — without the cost or complexity of doing it yourself.

Veeam Cloud Connect, a feature of Veeam Backup & Replication, makes it easy to point backups and replicas to a cloud provider in your area.
