Migrating Veeam Kasten for Kubernetes to the Red Hat Certified Operators Catalog

Challenge

One or more of the following symptoms may be observed in a Red Hat OpenShift environment running Veeam Kasten for Kubernetes:

Upgrades are no longer available for the Veeam Kasten operator installed from the Red Hat Operator Marketplace catalog.
Veeam Kasten (Enterprise - Term) or Veeam Kasten (Enterprise - PAYGO) is no longer available in the Red Hat Operator Hub.
Two Veeam Kasten operators appear in the OpenShift Software Catalog when searching for "veeam": one displays a "Marketplace" badge, and the other a "Certified" badge.

Cause

The Red Hat Operator Marketplace was deprecated in April 2025. As a result, the Veeam Kasten operator is no longer published or updated through that catalog.

All Veeam Kasten OpenShift deployments must transition to the Veeam Kasten operator (k10-kasten-operator-rhmp) available within the Red Hat Certified Operators catalog. This affects:

Customers who installed the Veeam Kasten operator from the Marketplace catalog and are unable to upgrade further.
Customers who previously installed the deprecated Veeam Kasten (Enterprise - Term) (kasten-k10-operator-term-rhmp-bundle) or Veeam Kasten (Enterprise - PAYGO) (kasten-k10-operator-paygo-rhmp-bundle) offerings, which are no longer listed in the Red Hat Operator Hub.

Solution

The Veeam Kasten operator installed from the Red Hat Operator Marketplace catalog (or the deprecated Veeam Kasten Enterprise - Term/PAYGO offerings) can safely be deleted and replaced with the Veeam Kasten operator from the Red Hat Certified Operators catalog, while preserving the Kasten instance itself.

GUI Method

Export the k10-config map as a backup.
Ensure Kasten Disaster Recovery is configured, and you have recorded the cluster ID and DR passphrase. This allows you to recover Kasten and its persistent data should something not work as planned during the operator replacement operation.
Uninstall the existing Veeam Kasten operator, while leaving the k10 operand and all resources in the kasten-io namespace intact.
1. Via the OpenShift UI, navigate to Operators > Installed Operators > Veeam Kasten ≡ menu > Uninstall Operator
2. Ensure that the option "Delete all operand instances for this operator" is unselected.

Install the new Veeam Kasten operator from the Red Hat Certified Operators catalog.
Confirm the k10 operand is visible in the Veeam Kasten Operator menu.

Note that the single Veeam Kasten operator is fully featured, and there will be no reduction in features, capabilities, or functionality when an enterprise license is applied.

CVE-2026-32998

A vulnerability in Veeam Service Provider Console allows for remote code execution.

Solution

This vulnerability was fixed starting with the following build:

Veeam Service Provider Console 9.2.1.33875

Mitigation

This vulnerability can only be exploited when alarm script execution is enabled. Starting in Veeam Service Provider Console 9.2.0.33215, alarm script execution is disabled by default. The default applies to new deployments and to upgrades where no alarms had a script execution action configured; deployments where this setting remained at the default are not affected by this vulnerability.

Note: The mitigation method discussed below cannot be applied to builds older than Veeam Service Provider Console 9.2.0.33215, because the setting AlarmManagement_ScriptExecutionEnabled was introduced in Veeam Service Provider Console 9.2.0.33215. Therefore, all builds prior to 9.2.0.33215 (e.g., 9.1, 9.0, and 8) are affected and must be upgraded to 9.2.1.33875.

To check whether a Veeam Service Provider Console 9.2.0.33215 deployment is affected:

On the Veeam Service Provider Console server, open the following file in a text editor:

Within the configuration.overrides.json file, identify the value

The Veeam Backup for Microsoft Azure appliance and its worker VMs can now be deployed with Encryption at Host enabled. This feature requires Veeam Backup & Replication plug-in build 13.8.4.18 or later, and the target Azure region and subscription must have Encryption at Host enabled.

To enable Encryption at Host:
1. On the Veeam Backup & Replication server, add the following line to C:\ProgramData\Veeam\Backup\Plugins\Microsoft Azure\Config.xml:
  All subsequent Veeam Backup for Microsoft Azure appliance deployments will then be launched with Encryption at Host.
2. After the appliance is deployed, connect to it over SSH and add the following lines to /etc/veeam/azurebackup/Config.ini:

EncryptionAtHost = "true"
```
  All worker VMs deployed by the appliance will then use Encryption at Host.

Resolved issues

General

Removal of the BUILTIN\Administrators group from Users & Roles does not correctly remove permissions from users in that group.
Veeam Backup & Replication causes excessive logging of Event ID 0.
The History tab fails to display historical information correctly.

Remote Console

The Veeam Backup & Replication Console auto-update process fails on systems with non-English locales.
The Veeam Backup & Replication Console installer downloaded via the Web UI is not at the latest version, requiring additional patching after installation to match the installed server.
When the Veeam Backup & Replication Console connects to multiple remote Veeam Backup & Replication deployments at the same version, the auto-update process runs redundantly and connection behavior is inconsistent. (Improved patched-file detection in the Console auto-update process so it correctly identifies already-current installations.)

High Availability

Creating a high availability cluster may reset the PostgreSQL OOMScoreAdjust setting, increasing the risk of the service being terminated by the operating system under memory pressure.

NFS Repository

Resetting the NFS share context also resets the NFS directory cache settings configured by the deployment service.

Object Storage Repository

Checkpoint removal on Azure-based object storage repositories fails with an InvalidQueryParameterValue error when the VersionId parameter is incorrectly set to null.
Operations with Azure-based Capacity Tier and Archive Tier repositories fail due to the use of a deprecated Microsoft endpoint.

Data Domain Repository

DDBoost credentials are not properly validated before checking repository availability.
Multiple repositories backed by the same Data Domain system must share a single set of DDBoost credentials, preventing per-repository credential isolation and separate Storage Unit ownership.
(Added support for using multiple DDBoost credentials with a single Data Domain system.)

Enterprise Manager

Logon to Windows-based Enterprise Manager fails due to a SAML authentication failure.

Veeam Data Cloud Vault

Backup server authorization now communicates directly with Veeam Data Cloud (VDC), removing the need to be a License Admin. Now, any user with the right VDC permissions can register a server.
The Web UI registration process has been improved and is now code-based: the backup server generates a registration code, which is entered into the VDC portal. This replaces the previous redirect-based authentication method to improve security.

General

Improved the Support Log bundle collection tool to more efficiently identify and collect relevant log files needed by support. The net result is that log bundles are now significantly smaller.

General

Importing a backup from a Windows SMB share may fail when specifying the full path to a .vbk file, with the error:

Failed to create LinuxAbsolutePath from . Reason: An absolute path in Linux must begin with the root (/) character. (Parameter 'value')

When updating RHEL infrastructure servers with the DISA STIG profile enabled, the public GPG key used to validate Veeam packages will be updated as well.
To ensure a smooth update for these systems, it's recommended to temporarily disable the fapolicyd service (if it's in use) during the update.
Fixed an issue where the Veeam vSphere vCenter plugin could fail to initialize and return an HTTP 404 error.
Increased the default Service Version Timeout to 120 seconds to reduce timeout‑related failures.

Scale-Out Backup Repository

Exporting backups to a Scale-Out Backup Repository with an NFS-based performance extent may fail when a retention period is specified.

Object Storage Repository

When backing up to an object storage repository in direct connection mode, the backup server may be incorrectly selected as the gateway server even when other backup proxy servers are available, which can impact performance.

Application Plug-ins

Application plug-in installation may fail with a "no digest" error when using the .rpm package on an OS with FIPS mode enabled.
A "hostname mismatch" error occurs when the plug-in connects to VBR using a custom self-signed certificate.
An "Unable to get local issuer certificate" error occurs when the plug-in connects to VBR using a certificate signed by an internal CA.
When using centralized plug-in management for Oracle RMAN, Microsoft SQL Server, SAP HANA, or SAP on Oracle, the default backup operator role does not have permission to manage the application backup policy.

Unstructured Data Backup

Unstructured Data Backup policies targeting a Hardened Repository may fail when the policy name contains special characters, with the error:

Purpose

This article documents the upgrade path to be taken to get to the most recent version of Veeam ONE.

Solution

End of Support Upgrade Path

If you are using a version of Veeam ONE (VONE) that has reached its End of Support (EOS) and cannot be directly upgraded to a supported version, you will need to install a new instance of VONE using the latest VONE version.

Clarification: If the Upgrade Instructions in the User Guide for a currently supported version of VONE include an upgrade path from an older, unsupported version, this upgrade pathway is still considered supported. This article provides details on upgrade processes for such situations, provided that a currently supported version of VONE supports a direct upgrade from these older versions.

For example:

When VONE version 11a was supported, it provided an upgrade path from VONE version 9.5 Update 4. However, VONE version 12 does not support upgrading directly from 9.5 Update 4. As a result, after VONE 11a reached EOS, the upgrade path for 9.5 Update 4 was removed from this document.
VONE version 12, which is currently supported, allows upgrading directly from VONE version 10a. Thus, although VONE 10a is no longer supported itself, the upgrade details for 10a are included in this document because an upgrade to VONE 12 from that version is officially supported.
