Before CollectiveView migrated all of its critical systems to the Bit Refinery Cloud, the company’s IT team spent a great deal of time maintaining, backing up, and replicating the 26 physical servers hosting its customers’ data.
“Our number one priority is protecting and safeguarding client’s information,” explained Eric Steidley, Vice President of CollectiveView. “Our clients rely on this data to run their businesses; therefore, they require 24/7 access, with no downtime. That’s why we needed to find a partner like Bit Refinery to host our data on dedicated virtual servers in a secure and redundant cloud infrastructure.”
Equally important to CollectiveView was a customized disaster recovery process. “Not only did Bit Refinery virtualize our physical servers into their cloud, but they also created a data storage and disaster recovery process that provides unparalleled peace of mind. We know our clients’ data is safe, secure, and available at their fingertips,” he added.
Bit Refinery uses Veeam Backup & Replication to back up and safeguard each client’s data, including CollectiveView’s.
“There was never a question about which VMware backup solution to use,” explained Tom Nats, Managing Partner at Bit Refinery. “Veeam Backup & Replication does exactly what it promises to do, and it’s so incredibly easy to use, unlike some of its competitors.”
Tom and his team use Veeam to back up CollectiveView’s data in the cloud to the Bit Refinery Storage Network, which provides a secure, remote repository. Then they send a copy of the backup to Eric via secure file transfer protocol each night, giving him instant access to CollectiveView’s virtual machines.
“We are one of the first cloud providers to offer this instant-access backup service,” Tom said. “We use Veeam Backup & Replication to provide other disaster recovery strategies as well. For example, some of our clients maintain their own virtual servers but grew tired of the cost and time involved with tape backups. They use our storage network as a target for their backup software, and if they use Veeam, which most do, we can restore their virtual machines to our cloud in minutes. That means they have on-demand data in the event of a disaster.”
Decreases financial burden associated with disaster recovery process
CollectiveView has experienced a significant financial savings, thanks to Bit Refinery’s Cloud Storage Network and Veeam Backup & Replication. In fact, the company transferred this savings to the research and development department, enabling the company to focus more on its core mission—designing software that helps customers manage their business processes more efficiently and effectively— and less on maintaining and backing up its physical servers.
Improves uptime because backup infrastructure is always in place
Before CollectiveView’s 26 physical servers became 12 virtual servers in Bit Refinery’s cloud, the company’s IT team cloned and replicated the physical servers offsite. While this particular backup process was time-consuming, it worked. However, if CollectiveView had experienced a catastrophe, recovery would have taken eight to 12 hours. With Bit Refinery and Veeam Backup & Replication, recovery is expected to take minutes.
Provides instant access to backups of virtual machines in the cloud
In addition to backing up CollectiveView’s data nightly to a secure offsite repository, Bit Refinery also sends the company a copy of the backup via secure file transfer protocol so Eric and his team have instant access to their virtual machines, which means their customers have instant access to the data that resides on them as well.
