Back in the day, backup wasn’t fast or easy.
In the early 2000s, IT administrators used traditional backup tools to protect data on their physical machines and virtual machines (VMs), requiring them to carefully balance backup schedules so only one or two VMs were backed up at the same time. That was the only way to preserve processing power and performance in the production environment.
“Everyone faced the same challenge back then – find a backup solution built for virtualization,” said Will Baccich, CEO of Global Data Vault. “We tried several solutions, but only one meshed with VMware and provided reliable backups. That’s the reason we chose Veeam® – it was the leader in virtualization backup. We continue to use Veeam today, but for an additional reason. Veeam is also the leader in Cloud Data Management™.”
Veeam provides a single platform for cloud, virtual and physical backup, enabling full ecosystem compatibility and Availability for Global Data Management’s customers.
“Veeam simplifies cloud backup for our customers and helps us meet their BC and DR requirements,” Baccich said. “Our mission is to protect their data no matter what, so if they’re in a disaster situation, we can get them up and running quickly, with minimal downtime.”
Global Data Vault’s customers are no strangers to disaster situations. Many of them are located in tornado-prone parts of the United States. According to the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the odds of businesses surviving a tornado aren’t high. Between 40% and 60% never reopen after a disaster.
“Tornados are no match for Global Data Vault and Veeam,” Baccich said.” “Neither are server crashes or any other disaster.”
Veeam Availability Suite™ protects nearly 4 PB of customer data across 6,000 virtual machines in Global Data Vault’s secure, private cloud.
“Veeam is the reason we’re able to provide comprehensive data protection and Availability to every customer,” Baccich said. “Veeam is the engine that powers backup, replication and disaster recovery as a service (DRaaS). We spin up a Veeam backup or replica in our cloud, and customers are back to business in no time.”
One company that appreciates DRaaS is Rug Doctor LLC, the global market leader in professional-grade, do-it-yourself carpet cleaning systems. The iconic red machines are available for rent from more than 40,000 retail locations, and they’re available for purchase from major retailers, including Amazon and Walmart.
Rug Doctor has facilities worldwide, including a manufacturing plant and data center in Fenton, Missouri. When a tornado passed directly over Fenton, the tornado’s vortex created a vacuum of air that collapsed the building’s walls, causing considerable damage to the plant. The data center, which processes more than 3 million transactions per year, was destroyed. Within two hours, Global Data Vault restored the IT infrastructure in its cloud.
“We hate hearing about tornados affecting our customers, but it happens, and we’re grateful we can help them maintain business continuity with little to no interruption,” Baccich said.
Maintaining business continuity is critical, but saving lives is more critical. Brian Childers, President of Comport Consulting Group, refers his customers to Global Data Vault for DRaaS. One of his customers, a large suburban municipality, lost a portion of its 911 service, putting lives in danger.
“Their Exchange server crashed late one Friday night, taking email with it,” Childers said. “First responders in the police and fire departments couldn’t communicate via email, a necessary part of their 911 system. I immediately contacted Global Data Vault, and they restored the server from a Veeam replica quickly, putting police and fire back online. This could have become a life-or-death situation, but Global Data Vault and Veeam came to the rescue.”
Global Data Vault and Veeam have come to the rescue for countless companies and organizations over the years, paving the way for Global Data Vault to develop a solid reputation in the industry.
“Customer acquisition has grown 40% each year, and our revenue doubled between 2017 and 2019,” Baccich said. “Thank you Veeam. We couldn’t do this without you.”
