Designed to address these needs, Veeam’s® next generation cloud-based backup and disaster recovery (DR) solutions offer a number of options to develop a solid Availability plan. Using Veeam's integrated, next generation cloud Availability solutions in tandem with cloud-based backup and DR services, companies can stay ahead of major disruptions while keeping their IT spending within budget.

How to Optimize Your Backups Utilizing Storage Snapshots and Replication for SQL Server

Wednesday, May 17 | 11:15-12:15
Back up your SQL Server with Nimble Storage and put your backup data to work. Combining Nimble Storage and Veeam® in the new Veeam Availability Suite™ 9.5 integration, along with the new Nimble Storage Secondary Flash array, allows administrators to back up instantly with no downtime to production. This integration allows for instant virtual machine (VM) and individual item restores. In this presentation, attendees will learn how to optimize their backup and restores for SQL utilizing Nimble space-efficient snapshots with zero copy clones for spinning up dev / test environments. As one of only two vendors capable of creating backups from replicated snapshots, Nimble allows your disaster recovery (DR) site to put your DR data to work as well. Add predictive analytics from Nimble InfoSight and Veeam ONE™, and administrators can rest assured of the Availability of their backup data and all their monitored systems.

How to Put Your Backup Data to Work with Flash-Enabled Secondary Storage

Thursday, May 18 | 11:15-12:15
The traditional practice of storing backup data on devices optimized only for ingress and compression has created data siloes with costly tradeoffs … slow restores, trapped information, the need for specialized expertise and even lost data. Continued innovations in data storage are bringing a big change to the area of data backup. According to Gartner, by 2020, 30% of organizations will leverage backup for more than just operational recovery, up from less than 10% at the beginning of 2016. A new breed of devices is enabling capabilities like near-instant backup and restore, the ability to use backup data for real work, like test / dev and analytics, and a higher level of Availability than has ever been seen before. This session shares the current state of the secondary storage industry, along with a roundup of new flash-enabled and cloud-connected products. These products bring breakthroughs in data recovery speed and agility, and the ability to use backup data for real business work. We’ll share customer examples of how they are improving their data protection, getting more value out of their backup data and still seeing a low cost of secondary storage.

How Some Veeam Resellers Do It Better: Channel and Marketing Best Practices

Tuesday, May 16 | 16:10-17:10
At Veeam we strive to work by the belief that partner success is our success, but sometimes we are blinded by all the good things we think we are providing you. ProPartner Portal, anyone? The best part of working with partners over the years is learning who runs their business and maintains their growth year after year, staying ahead of industry trends and always remaining on the cutting edge of technology and business practices. It's also ideal to understand exactly what partners need from Veeam and not what we think they need from us. This session will talk about the top trends in reseller business, such as finding a niche market and taking advantage of vendor and distribution resources. We will also discuss digital marketing, and how digital transformation (DX) necessitates a multi-channel, multi-touch approach to find, land and expand new customers. We’ll discuss: what tools are available to you as a Veeam ProPartner, best practices for creating compelling campaigns and how you can find those coveted net-new customers. You’ll leave this session having what you need to take your business to the next level and be the all-star your boss wants you to be.

Veeam Distribution Panel Discussion

Tuesday, May 16 | 16:10-17:10
One of the key strengths in IT distribution is the power of partnerships. From their unique position at the center of the channel, distributors connect resellers with top technology suppliers, software vendors, service providers and systems integrators. Their vast network of alliances creates collaborative opportunities for resellers while streamlining the steps necessary to create, sell and deliver solutions that combine technologies that span supplier lines. Recommend panel (similar to the Veeam® Cloud & Service Provider (VCSP)/reseller panel idea) with directors and above from North American distributors talking about the best practices in leveraging distribution for partner success.

The Ultimate Guide to Compliance with Veeam: PCI, HIPAA, SOX and More

Thursday, May 18 | 16:10-17:10
Compliance is a process, not a single all-encompassing solution. What is the cost of noncompliance? Will the company go out of business due to costly fines? Will the brand be affected to the point that it becomes a bad catch phrase? Compliance isn't free, though. There are costs to assess requirements and to create and maintain compliance processes. There are also recurring costs for auditing and administration. Come and learn about compliance, the risks and how to reduce those expenses and risks while simplifying the process. Comply and thrive!

Veeam Agent for Linux: A Deeper Look

Wednesday, May 17 | 11:15-12:15
Linux server protection might be tricky sometimes, especially when dealing with physical configurations that may have no built-in volume snapshot mechanisms or with configurations that are located in the cloud. However, even if your system can take a snapshot, you need to perform additional actions to make a backup out of it, and difficulties may still arise during recovery. That’s right: Snapshots are not backups. Although experienced administrators do combine several tools to back up their systems, such an approach might be challenging for less experienced Linux users. Veeam Agent for Linux is a new, lightweight, easy-to-configure tool that provides you with an easy way to perform consistent backups of your physical Linux machine without needing to shut it down or make it read only, and you can use the backups for bare-metal restore to another machine. Also, it can be integrated with your current Veeam infrastructure, making it possible to manage all your backups from a single console. And moreover — it’s absolutely FREE! This session will show you what Veeam Agent for Linux is, explain how it works and more!

Veeam Me Up, Scotty! Trials and Tribulations of a Higher Education Service Provider

Thursday, May 18 | 13:30-14:30
Large virtualized environment to manage? No problem, Veeam has you covered. In this session, we will focus on the design and implementation of Veeam Backup & Replication and Veeam ONE™ products to back up and manage a large cloud service provider environment that utilizes VMware vCloud Director and NetApp storage. With over 6,000 hosted VMs and counting, architecting and implementing a reliable and efficient backup infrastructure is where the fun begins. We will cover the architecture and design of our Veeam Backup & Replication deployment, and how we ended up breaking our 100% virtualized rule to achieve a scalable backup infrastructure design and complete backups within the required six-hour window. Hear about best practices and lessons learned from our implementation, how to configure backup jobs for VMs hosted by vCloud Director, benefits realized with NetApp snapshot integration and the challenges we encountered along the way. With 6,000 VMs to back up, there are bound to be some restores along the way. Learn about how we implemented self-service restores for tenants and where we are going next. The last part of the session will focus on Veeam ONE implementation for capacity and performance management, backup monitoring, tenant reporting and showback.

More than Backup: Data Center Migration to Infrastructure as a Service — A Case Study

Thursday, May 18 | 14:50-15:50
Organizations of all types and sizes are re-evaluating their investments into traditional on-premises data centers, and Western Forest Products, a $750,000,000 lumber company in Western Canada, was no different. Western Forest Products (WFP) needed a solution to reliably migrate from their on-premises data center to Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) from an internet service provider. Being a lumber company, WFP is in a highly competitive international resource sector and, as a result, has many applications and teams with high uptime requirements. Data center migrations can be fraught with uncertainty, so it was imperative for the application migrations to be successful as there was little room for error. Simultaneously, with a small team, it was important to utilize a solution that would allow them to greatly improve their backup recovery time objectives and recovery point objectives while decreasing costs. In this presentation, you will learn how WFP scoped their migration plan and why Veeam came out on top as the best-in-breed backup and replication technology for the project. Additionally, you will learn about the key benefits of Veeam replication with its automatic re-IP of virtual machines (VMs) and automated testing via SureReplica, which gave WFP high confidence in their migration, and how you too can configure and take advantage of this technology. Finally, we will talk about how Veeam Backup & Replication™ helped lower costs and increase service levels through simple use, granular item / application level recovery, delegated restore capabilities within enterprise manager and its configuration, and how all the technologies came together for a smooth migration.

Veeam’s integration with HPE storage solutions lets you create application-consistent backups from HPE 3PAR StoreServ and StoreVirtual snapshots for fast and efficient data protection. For long-term external storage, HPE StoreOnce provides deduplication for efficient storage utilization and fault isolation for data. StoreOnce can copy backups to StoreEver tape storage or to the cloud for long-term off-site data archival. This strategy enables you to meet the 3-2-1 Rule of data protection, where there are three copies of the data on two different media types, and one copy is kept off site. Veeam products are now available from HPE via the HPE Complete program, so you can source all components of the 3-2-1 best practice data protection ecosystem from a single vendor.

How to Back Up and Restore VMware vCenter Server Appliance (vCSA) and Platform Controllers Properly

Thursday, May 18 | 13:30-14:30
There is some complexity to properly backing up vCenter and properly restoring it, especially when there are external components like databases and platform controllers. However, using Veeam and with some important knowledge, it is possible. vCenter is critically important in virtual infrastructures due to things like view and vRealize Automation, so it is very important that it is always available. If you lose some or all of the vCenter infrastructure, it is very important that you know how to recover it.

Sites, Storage, Components and More: Know the Veeam Flow to Avoid Surprises for Enterprise Configurations

Thursday, May 18 | 11:15-12:15
Many times, backup and replication architects focus only on the resources needed for Veeam, while the impact on the storage and network infrastructure is largely ignored. Understanding the flow of data from source to target during all operations, including backup, replication and restore, is critical to designing a highly performant system that meets your business requirements. In this session, Veeam principal solutions architect Tom Sightler will take you on a deep dive of the data flow through the various Veeam components, so you can fully visualize this impact and create a strong design. You will learn all of the details of data flow through the Veeam components for the following: VMware / Hyper-V backup with all transport modes, Veeam Agent-based backups to a Veeam backup repository, backup copy between repositories, full virtual machine (VM) restore, mount servers and vPower NFS, and file and item-level recovery.

Throw your backups into ANY window

Wednesday, May 17 | 13:30-14:30
Choosing a storage solution for your backups can be a daunting task: Windows or Linux servers, SMB shares, SAN, NAS, deduplication appliances ... But block cloning, a new feature in Windows 2016 and leveraged by Veeam Backup & Replication™, is promising to change this. Available for ReFS 3.1 file systems, this technology allows for insanely reduced transform times and spaceless GFS backups. Or at least, this is what marketing has told us so far, but how good is it in reality? Is an expensive and complex Storage Spaces Direct the only way to consume all the amazing new features? How can I design my new backup repository with these new options in mind? What about encryption and Veeam Scale-out Backup Repository™? Didier Van Hoye, Carsten Rachfahl (both Microsoft MVPs and Veeam Vanguards) and Luca Dell'Oca (Veeam cloud architect) have joined forces to bring you from-the-field information, tips, tricks and ideas to build your next Veeam backup repository with real-life tests and feedback gained from deploying this new powerful combination into multiple environments.

Veeam on the Ground + Veeam in the Cloud = Availability for a Distributed Enterprise

Wednesday, May 17 | 13:30-14:30

Granite Construction (NYSE: GVA) is one of the largest construction concerns in the United States with $2.5 billion in annual revenues. Granite IT is undertaking a massive technical infrastructure re-engineering. It started with the accelerated virtualization, relocation and modernization of its main data center. The second phase focused on resiliency improvements across multiple computer rooms at the branch offices and numerous construction sites. In Q4 2015, after a careful evaluation of the competing offerings, Granite chose Veeam® Availability SuiteTM as its enterprise standard that meets the requirements for enterprise backups across all its sites. When Granite decided to build an Azure-focused hybrid IT, the original plan for deployment of Veeam on the ground was extended to include Veeam in the cloud. This presentation describes Granite’s experience in using Veeam Availability SuiteTM to underpin:

  • Server virtualization and data center relocation
  • Failover and fail-in scenarios
  • Multi-tenancy and bill-back
  • Backups and restores in the Azure cloud
  • Hybrid IT scenario with the pure VMware environment at the main data center and Hyper-V across the regional and branch offices
  • Role-based access for the global and regional backup administration
  • Operational and capacity planning reporting with the enterprise-wide single pane of glass for all enterprise repositories
  • Transition of the remote sites to the hybrid IT model

Availability in a profile driven World

Wednesday, May 17 | 14:50-15:50
Have you had a chance to evaluate the new VMware storage technology landscape? VMware Virtual Volumes (VVols) and Virtual SAN (vSAN) are incredible innovations. These next generation storage technologies from VMware allow for Storage Policy-Based Management (SPBM) which is the way to manage virtual machine (VM) storage requirements in VMware vSphere going forward. The major challenge with traditional storage architectures is a misalignment between what the storage consumer wants and the capabilities that are provided. This results in inefficiencies through the over provisioning of storage resources. There is a strong need to provide alignment between application needs and storage resources. These storage policies are an evolution of virtual machine storage profiles, and used to ensure VMs are placed on storage that guarantees a specific level of capacity, performance, Availability redundancy and so on. When it comes to Availability, Veeam has you covered! Let’s look at a few areas where VVols and vSAN Availability can be easier than you think with Veeam.

Flash to Disk to Cloud — VM Data Protection with NetApp and Veeam

Thursday, May 18 | 11:15-12:15
Virtual machine (VM) data is often the largest and most critical data companies have. It also tends to be the most laborious and difficult to properly protect. This breakout will explain and demonstrate how to simply configure a protection policy to migrate your VM data from flash to a disk archive and finally to a cloud repository. We will also discuss how to keep the right data on the right tier of storage, how NetApp products can move data from high-performance flash arrays to disk repositories and then finally into cloud-like object stores. The pros and cons of each choice in the design process also will be discussed.

These specific examples and live demos will focus on: data analytics, including using backed up data for analytics, how to get the best value out of data that does nothing else but sit waiting for a disaster to occur, finding out how much space you might be wasting in production with data you might be protecting unnecessarily and learning about compliance breaches that your users might be committing; self-service, including a slightly more in-depth example of how you might build your own service portal by extending both Veeam functionality, as well as covering some of the missing ingredients required to make it a success for in-house and service provider consumption; and compliance and configuration management, which includes using Veeam's APIs to self-document your Veeam setup, including configuration tracking, dealing with configuration drift and enforcing persistence.

Programmatic Performance: Dynamic Reallocation of Storage IO Limits to Shrink Backup Windows

Thursday, May 18 | 16:10-17:10
As virtualized environments grow, finding the time and resources to fit backups into windows that make sense for the business becomes more of a challenge. To help this, organizations have to go to greater and greater lengths, and complications, to avoid impacting the performance and Availability of their production environments. What if, instead of running backup jobs all night, utilizing layer after layer of snapshots and clones and other even more invasive storage tricks, you could simply reallocate IO from the rest of the storage array to the volumes and virtual machines (VMs) that are being backed up, providing more performance, more throughput and smaller backup windows without any manual intervention? With the guaranteed Quality of Service (QoS) functionality of the NetApp SolidFire AFA platform, this kind of granular, dynamic performance management becomes possible and simple to implement. Watch how being able to provision and reprovision performance makes operational nightmares a thing of the past.

Simple and cost-efficient backup infrastructure with StarWind and Veeam

Wednesday, May 17 | 15:10-16:10
The presentation is dedicated to new backup solution from Veeam and StarWind – StarWind Backup Appliance. It is a plug-and-play backup storage that costs less than all its components separately. Also, it saves money on cloud backup by effectively tiering backup data between on-site storage and cloud for Disaster Recovery purposes. StarWind Virtual Backup Appliance allows those who already have backup hardware to save money on backup by automatically distributing “hot”, “cool” and “cold” backup data between several storage tiers. “Hot” backup data must be constantly available, so it is stored on dedicated backup storage. “Cool” backup data is sent to Amazon Web Services S3 storage, where it is stored for much less. “Cold” backup data goes to even less expensive AWS Glacier storage. StarWind Backup Appliance is a turnkey platform that easily serves as backup storage to any primary infrastructure, because it supports industry-standard uplink protocols: iSCSI, SMB3 and NFS, including the RDMA-capable iSER and SMB3 Direct. It also features a built-in cloud gateway that utilizes public cloud as an extra storage tier, bringing the “3-2-1 backup rule” to a new level. The appliance adopts the above-mentioned cost-effective storage tiering method. The platform scales easily thanks to Veeam Backup Repository, by adding new StarWind Backup Appliance nodes or JBOD. Besides, StarWind provides technical support for the backup appliance as a whole.
