Failover of replica using Re-IP causes Windows crash (the “blue screen” error) on the Veeam Backup server.
Challenge
During the failover of a replica that was configured to use Re-IP, a Windows “blue screen” error occurs on the Veeam Backup Server.
Cause
When performing the Re-IP process the Veeam Backup & Replication software mounts the replica’s VMDK using VDK to modify registry entries within the replica which can cause some anti-virus solutions to crash the Veeam Backup Server.
Solution
First, isolate the behavior by temporarily disabling anti-virus to confirm this is the root cause of your problem.
You will also want to exclude the installation folder, typically "C:\Program Files\Veeam\Backup and Replication" and "C:\Program Files (x86)\Veeam", on your Veeam Backup Server.
More information
The issue was detected specifically with Trend Micro Worry-Free Edition Business Security Standard 7.0. The above solution should work for any anti-virus software.
