Based in Singapore, RE&S Enterprises operates approximately 20 Japanese restaurant and retail brands across more than 80 outlets. With a portfolio spanning fast casual and convenience to fine dining, RE&S Enterprises aims to delight every customer with delicious, high-quality food.
“We are always looking for ways to enhance the dining experience for our customers,” said Adrian Tan, Senior Information Technology Manager at RE&S Enterprises. “As part of that commitment to excellence, we’re driving innovation with cutting-edge AI technology.”
RE&S Enterprises is infusing AI throughout its operations: From AI-powered menu recommendations delivered via self ordering solutions, to robot cooks that assist its kitchen teams.
“Digital capabilities are a key enabler of our business,” said Tan. “We need all our systems, from our AI stack to our mission-critical ERP platform, to be available and secure at all times.”
As its digital footprint grew, RE&S Enterprises found that its previous backup tool was becoming increasingly difficult to maintain. Adding to the challenge, the company’s vendor did not have a local presence in Asia, which meant that it often took more than a day to receive answers back on support inquiries.
“We saw many opportunities to improve our approach to data protection,” said Tan. “As well as finding a vendor that could provide us with more responsive support, we wanted to increase our data resilience by increasing the number of backup targets and enabling immutability.”
To safeguard its AI-powered customer experiences, RE&S Enterprises adopted Veeam Data Platform.
“We felt that Veeam offered us everything we needed: Reliable, scalable, and highly-automated data resilience capabilities, combined with responsive local support services,” said Tan. “Veeam is also fully compatible with our Nutanix hyperconverged infrastructure, which was another key requirement.”
With Veeam, RE&S Enterprises gets fast, easy access to expert knowledge and support. “In the past, we were lucky to get an answer from our backup vendor within eight hours,” Tan said. “When you are dealing with a critical incident, that level of delay feels endless. With Veeam, we almost always hear back within an hour or two of reaching out — around 85% faster than before.”
It wasn’t long before RE&S Enterprises experienced the benefits of Veeam’s expertise and responsiveness firsthand. Soon after it deployed Veeam Data Platform, RE&S Enterprises became the target of a sophisticated cyberattack.
“We immediately engaged Veeam to help us isolate, restore, and harden the affected systems,” said Tan. “Veeam jumped into action straight away, helping us mitigate the business impact of the cyberattack. Within just two weeks, we were able to restore 80% of our data and get all our business systems fully back up and running.”
RE&S Enterprises used the cyberattack as a learning opportunity. The company engaged a local Veeam partner to help strengthen its approach to data resilience and ensure that future attacks would never result in data loss.
Working with its Veeam partner, RE&S Enterprises enhanced its approach to data protection by adding Veeam Data Cloud Vault: A fully managed, immutable cloud storage resource.
“In the past, we only stored one copy of our production data,” said Tan. “Today, we store one backup on a local storage repository, a second copy in an air-gapped environment on premises, and a third copy on Veeam Data Cloud Vault. Data is our most valuable asset, and this in-depth, defensive strategy strengthens our resilience by reducing the risk of data loss in a cyber incident.”
With Veeam, RE&S Enterprises is accelerating its backup jobs and slashing recovery times.
“For small tasks, such as restoring accidentally deleted files, we can recover data for our users within minutes,” said Tan. “For full-scale system restores, we’ve compressed an entire day of work into a matter of hours. Veeam has cut our recovery time objective by more than 65%. And with Veeam Data Cloud Vault, we can even restore our VMs to Azure if our data center is offline.”
RE&S Enterprises is saving more than time. By partnering with Veeam, the company is strengthening its resilience while reducing operational costs by 25%. “Veeam offers us substantially better value, and better protection, than our previous backup vendor,” Tan said. “Through our ongoing partnership with Veeam, we’re in a strong position to protect 100% of our business data.”
