Veeam Explorer for Microsoft Exchange: Could not establish trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel

Challenge

When restoring items with Veeam Explorer for Microsoft Exchange or sending them as attachments you receive the following error: "The request failed. The underlying connection was closed: could not establish trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel"

Cause

There are two possible causes:

1. You are using a self-signed certificate that has not been placed in the Trusted Root Certification Authorities Store 

2. You are connecting to the Exchange server using server name or IP address that is not specified in the certificate. 

Solution

The solution varies based on the cause:

1. Install the self-signed certificate into the Trusted Root Certification Authorities Store using the following instructions:

2. Make sure the mailbox server (CAS) you are connecting to is specified using the server name or IP address the certificate was issued to.
