Challenge

Veeam Agent for Oracle Solaris does not back up hidden ZFS snapshots.

Cause

Veeam Agent for Oracle Solaris cannot back up hidden ZFS snapshots that are explicitly specified as a source for backup.

This is a by-design limitation from Oracle. By default, the .zfs directory is not visible when listing directory contents. This setting prevents backup software from inadvertently backing up snapshots in addition to new data.

Solution

To back up ZFS snapshots with Veeam Agent for Oracle Solaris, make the filesystem's snapshot directory visible. This can be done via the ZFS property snapdir, for example:

zfs set snapdir=visible <filesystem>
