Challenge

When attempting to install the VeeamCDP I/O filter on a cluster that will be used for continuous data protection (CDP), the installation fails with the following error:

The agent's workflow is blocked until its required solutions are re-mediated externally in vSphere Lifecycle Manager.

Cause

vSphere LifeCycle Management installed on the cluster requires the remediation of updates for hosts in the cluster.

Solution

To install the VeeamCDP I/O filter on a cluster, do the following:

  1. In the VMware vSphere client, navigate to updates of a cluster for which you want to install the filter.
  2. For the hosts on the cluster, click Remediate All.
The vSphere Client interface shows the "Updates" tab for a cluster running version 7.0.1. The "Image Compliance" section indicates that 2 hosts are out of compliance with the cluster's image. A warning message states that remediation is needed to enable Veeam Continuous Data Protection for VMware ESX 11.0. The "REMEDIATE ALL" button is highlighted.
  1. In the opened window, accept the terms of EULA and click Start Remediation.
The "Review Remediation Impact" dialog is open in the vSphere Client. The left panel lists "Impact summary," "Applicable remediation settings," "End User License Agreement," and "Impact to specific hosts." The main section summarizes that 2 hosts are non-compliant and will be live remediated, with notes about the remediation process. At the bottom left, a checkbox is selected for "I accept the terms of the end user license agreement." At the bottom right, the "START REMEDIATION" button is highlighted in blue.
  1. Wait some time (about 5 minutes) to complete the operation.
  2. In the Veeam Backup & Replication console, launch the VeeamCDP Filter Management wizard.
  3. Despite the cluster having the “Veeam I/O filter is up to date” status, perform the installation for this cluster again.
