Challenge

After installing or upgrading to Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 version 8 using Community Edition or an NFR (Not-For-Resale) license, email notifications are sent daily that state that state:

[Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365] Failed to update license
License updated interrupted: Paid license is not installed.

Cause

This occurs because starting in Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 version 8, the Update license automatically feature is permanently enabled when using Community Edition or an NFR license. This change aligns with other Veeam products (e.g., Veeam Backup & Replication), where automatic license updates and usage reporting are required as part of using Community Edition or NFR licenses.

Solution

There is no way to prevent these email notifications at this time, and this erroneous email notification will be removed in a future release.
