Purpose

This article documents how to add a Veeam Cloud Service Provider's Veeam Data Cloud (VDC) Vault to their tenant's Veeam Backup Server, and that tenant's Veeam Backup Server uses their own, non-rental, license key.

Cause

If a tenant’s Veeam Backup & Replication deployment is using the tenant’s own, non-rental, license, the Veeam Cloud Service Provider may find that no storage accounts appear in the Veeam Data Cloud (VDC) Vault registration wizard when trying to add their VDC Vault to that tenant’s Veeam Backup Server. This is because the wizard only shows VDC Vault storage accounts linked to the Support ID of the license used by the VBR deployment, making it impossible for the service provider to select or add their VDC Vault storage account on the tenant's server.

Solution

Applying Custom Settings to Veeam Software Appliance
This article contains one or more registry values to adjust settings within Veeam Backup & Replication on Windows. For information on applying these custom settings to the Linux-based Veeam Software Appliance, please review: KB4779: Applying Custom Settings to Veeam Software Appliance.

To allow for the Veeam Data Cloud Vault registration wizard to display storage accounts associated with a Support ID other than the one associated with the installed Veeam Backup & Replication license, create the following registry value before adding the VDC Vault storage.

Key Location: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Veeam\Veeam Backup and Replication
Value Name: VaultServerRegistrationCustomSupportID
Value Type: String Value (REG_SZ)
Value Data: ### (Veeam Cloud Service Provider's Support ID)

Specify the Support ID associated with the Service Provider's VDC Vault storage account for the value data.

PowerShell script to create the registry value:

# Update $supportID value before executing.
$supportID = "00000000"
New-ItemProperty -Path 'HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Veeam\Veeam Backup and Replication\' -Name 'VaultServerRegistrationCustomSupportID' -Value $supportID -PropertyType String -Force
After successfully adding the VDC Vault storage account, the registry value can be safely removed.

More Information

Multi-geo customers with multiple contracts utilizing different Support IDs can also use this registry key to add the VDC Vault storage account associated with one region (Support ID) to another region's Veeam Backup & Replication server.
