Challenge

After the upgrade or installation of the patch for Veeam Backup & Replication 12.3.2.4165, existing Veeam Plug-In for Microsoft SQL jobs fail with the following error:

  • Failed to backup database. Error: Mandatory arguments not set
Session failed: Mandatory arguments not set.
Error messages in a backup job log stating "Failed to backup database NEO. Error: Mandatory arguments not set" and "Session failed: Mandatory arguments not set." 
  • Starting retention policy task
Session failed

Cause

This issue is caused by an incompatibility between the Veeam Plug-in for Microsoft SQL version 12.3.0.310 (or earlier) and Veeam Backup & Replication 12.3.2.4165.

Solution

To resolve this issue upgrade Veeam Plug-in for Microsoft SQL Server to version 12.3.2.4165.
