The Business Challenge

Prosegur is a global giant with operations in 31 countries — and the large, diverse IT landscape to match that international reach. Recent expansion — especially through acquisitions in Latin America — caused an explosion in the number of critical systems that the central IT team needs to protect. Integrating these new systems into the company’s IT cybersecurity and resiliency framework is now a top priority.

“Over the past four years we’ve invested in digital transformation and innovation to deliver new technology-driven services for our clients,” said Jorge De Diego Rodriguez, APAC IT Director at Prosegur. “To keep those services running seamlessly, we have to make sure our systems are available at all times. We can’t afford to lose data or fall victim to cyberattacks. IT security and data protection are critical if we’re going to live up to our tagline of ‘Security you can Trust.’”

Many of the companies that Prosegur acquired have their own local data centers or server rooms, running a wide variety of hardware and software systems. Meanwhile, the company has also embraced the cloud, with Microsoft Office 365 and other applications running on Microsoft Azure. The central IT team manages servers, storage systems and networking devices supporting locations around the world.

“We’ve evolved to a point where hardware-based backups just don’t make sense,” said De Diego Rodriguez. “We needed an easy-to-manage software-defined backup solution that can keep pace with our growth. That’s where Veeam comes in.”

The Veeam Solution

Prosegur’s IT decision-makers were quick to select Veeam as their global solution for backup and recovery.

“Many of us in the IT team had worked with Veeam in previous roles, and we see them as number one in the market for software- defined backup solutions,” said De Diego Rodriguez. “Veeam has a great team that has supported us from the beginning, with a Technical Account Manager [TAM] who helps us make the right architectural decisions and align with best practices.”

Prosegur’s TAM worked with IPM, a local Veeam Accredited Service Partner (VASP) to help the company rearchitect its backup infrastructure. By using reports from Veeam ONE, the team was able to diagnose performance problems and make targeted improvements to optimize backup speeds.

“Veeam ONE has helped us identify bottlenecks, eliminate duplicate jobs and prevent multiple backups from starting at the same time,” said Daniel Vila Rodriguez, Prosegur IT Storage & Backup & CPD Global Manager. “It’s a central point of control and visibility that really helps to highlight any configuration issues and address them fast.”

Today, Prosegur can back up all its systems and data, including its Microsoft 365 environment, with a single solution, and store two copies of every backup — one on premises, and one in the Azure cloud. It also enables granular data recovery, which is critical for meeting the company’s rigorous auditing and legal discovery requirements.

“If a user asks us to recover a deleted file, or our legal team needs us to restore all emails between a range of dates, we can do it with a few clicks,” said Vila Rodriguez. “Veeam also gives us the capacity to back up transaction logs from SQL Server and Oracle, which means we can restore our databases so much faster than ever before.”

Above all, the ability to build and extend software- defined backup services, without needing to install specific hardware, gives Prosegur the flexibility and agility it needs to keep pace with the growing scale and complexity of its global IT landscape — and ultimately ensure that both its internal systems and client-facing services are protected and available 24/7.
