BEarena Pty Ltd began operating in 2007 to provide professional services to companies looking to virtualize their IT environments. By 2009, as more and more companies moved toward virtualization, it became apparent to the consultants at BEarena that issues surrounding backup and disaster recovery had emerged as one of the most critical concerns. The company decided to focus on backup and recovery tools that would meet their clients’ requirements for a safe and secure environment.
According to Darren Ashley, Technical Director for BEarena, “As virtualization gained acceptance, ensuring that applications and data were adequately backed up and protected became one of the major challenges our clients faced. However, most of them had not changed their backup architecture to suit the new infrastructure. They were using the same backup they used for their physical servers to back up their virtual machines. We felt this was not the best solution and that a virtualization-centric architecture was the answer.”
Ashley and his colleagues investigated a number of backup and recovery tools. “When we looked at what was available in 2009, we were trying to get a feel for which companies had the technology that provided safe and secure backup,” Ashley said. “And we were also looking for a company that was forward-thinking, and would continue to improve its products as the technology evolved. So, of course, we looked at Veeam.”
The first thing that made an impression on the BEarena team was the responsiveness of Veeam to its inquiries. “Shortly after our initial call, a Veeam representative set up an online conference to demonstrate Veeam’s backup product and discuss our needs,” Ashley explained. “This was a level of interaction we had not had with other companies. We recognized that Veeam was emerging as a market leader, and realized that we shared Veeam’s vision of where to take the technology.”
After that initial demonstration, Ashley and his colleagues knew their search was over. They were confident that Veeam® Backup & Replication™ was a solution they could recommend to their clients without hesitation. “Veeam is built specifically for the virtual environment which is an asset we can offer our clients,” Ashley said. “It is also easy to manage and maintain, and has functionalities that are lacking in other backup products.”
Veeam Backup & Replication offers BEarena’s clients flexibility and a host of important capabilities. It can run a VM directly from a backup file, restore individual objects like email messages and database records, and automatically verify the recoverability of every backup.
“Veeam Backup & Replication is a very stable product. We can produce a design, deploy best practices, and then leave a very simple maintenance routine so the client can easily manage the environment,” Ashley concluded. “The product is very easy to use, and it delivers what it promises.”
BEarena has deployed Veeam Backup & Replication in scores of client infrastructures, and has also recommended Veeam ONE™ to many organizations. In addition, Ashley and his colleagues have also recommended Veeam Management Pack™ to several of their larger clients. “Once companies have their backup and recovery tools in place, they look to improve their monitoring capabilities,” Ashley said. “We have recommended Veeam nworks with good results. We see this as a high-growth market for us going forward.”
Veeam ONE offers a comprehensive view of the entire virtual infrastructure for real-time monitoring of performance, events, and utilization of virtualization resources. The nworks MP provides scalable, fault-tolerant and agentless VMware infrastructure monitoring and management directly in Microsoft System Center, eliminating the need for a separate monitoring framework and protecting a client’s investment in Microsoft System Center.
