Onlanta was using several vendors for their data backup, which made providing services in the area of data backup, recovery and management more difficult. Other vendors’ prices lacked transparency, and their solutions did not address Onlanta’s challenges in regard to developing its cloud business.

Inventive Retail Group, a major retailer in Russia, was able to recover its IT infrastructure and keep its network of retail stores operating during a data storage disaster that occurred at a peak sales period.
“We provide Inventive Retail Group with a fully-fledged service; starting from supporting their IT-infrastructure in our cloud to data disaster recovery. Using Veeam Availability Suite, we not only carry out data backup, but also recovery onto the secondary platform with extremely high availability level,” said Konovalov. “Before arranging a secondary platform the company suffered a data storage failure during a peak sales period, and we had exactly one night to restore the entire infrastructure. By 5 a.m. all the stores were fully operational.”
As Veeam’s solutions become a more popular product on the market, the process of attracting new customers became simpler for Onlanta.
“It is actually really straightforward to integrate any of Veeam’s solutions between each other,” said Konovalov. “If a customer also has Veeam as its backup software, this makes negotiating much simpler, and we are able to reach an agreement for the provision of services using Veeam solutions.”
Onlanta also assisted a financial organization with an urgent migration of its IT infrastructure from another service provider’s cloud by using Veeam.
“This bank faced the challenge of migrating from another service provider to our cloud as quickly as possible, even though there was no infrastructure already available,” said Konovalov. “Using Veeam, we quickly and carefully launched the migration process, and over a weekend we transferred a fairly large part of their IT infrastructure over to us, without any interruptions to the financial organization’s business.”
Veeam’s role is significant not only in providing technological solutions, but also in educating the entire IT industry.
“Veeam has taught the market the importance of data backup and availability. It is easy to say they have accomplished a lot on our behalf,” said Konovalov. “For regular providers and integrators, it is usually difficult to arrive and sell new products and explain their value, but this vendor has put effort into educating the market about this, which we are very glad about.”
Another one of Veeam’s advantages is how simple it is to manage its solutions.
“Migrating to Veeam from a previous backup solution proceeded without the vendor’s involvement. This says a lot about the clarity and simplicity of the product and about the quality of the documentation that Veeam provides,” said Konovalov. “High-level specialists work at Onlanta. They underwent certification by Veeam and independently carried out all the work for deploying the solution, both within the company and for the customers.”
More than anything, Onlanta is just enjoying having all their data management activities in one place.
“When we began using Veeam, we abandoned solutions from other vendors,” said Konovalov. “Until recently we were still using competitors’ solutions for backing up the Oracle database, but we now do everything exclusively by means of Veeam.”
The clear vector of Veeam’s development and its products was also an extremely important factor in Onlanta choosing Veeam.
“We are impressed by the fact that Veeam has a clear development strategy. Most vendors’ roadmaps are only there for show or to impress customers when negotiating. A large proportion of vendors do not meet deadlines at best, and at worst don’t even follow them,” said Konovalov. “Veeam, on the other hand, has a proper roadmap and clear deadlines.”
