What are Veeam Agents for Microsoft Windows and Linux?

Veeam® Agents for Microsoft Windows and Linux are a simple backup agent designed to ensure the Hyper‑Availability of your Windows and Linux workloads by providing backup and recovery for physical and cloud-based servers and workstations, as well as endpoint devices that belong to remote users.
It is a standalone product and is not part of Veeam Backup & Replication™ or Veeam Availability Suite™.

While Veeam Agents for Microsoft Windows and Linux (all versions) optionally integrate with Veeam Backup & Replication, they are standalone products that do not require the purchase of any other Veeam products to work. When combined with Veeam Availability Suite™*, Veeam Agents for Microsoft Windows** and Linux delivers the ability to manage and protect ALL workloads — virtual, physical, cloud — from a single Veeam pane of glass.

Can Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows be used to back up physical servers? Can it be used as an enterprise physical server backup tool?

You can use the FREE version of Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows to back up Microsoft Windows-based physical servers (including Windows Server 1803), workstations and public cloud workloads.

All versions of Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows support Windows Server 1803, but Server licenses include server-specific features (e.g., application-aware processing, file indexing and search, server-friendly scheduling and retention, etc.), making it the best choice for enterprise-level physical server backups.

Can Veeam Agent for Linux be used to back up physical servers? Can it be used as an enterprise physical server backup tool?

Customers can use the FREE version of Veeam Agent for Linux to back up Linux-based physical servers, workstations and public cloud workloads. However, the FREE version does not include server-specific backup features.

Workstation and Server licenses of Veeam Agent for Linux are also available. Workstation and Server licenses include 24.7.365 technical support, and Server licenses also include server-specific features (e.g., application-aware processing, support for multiple jobs, etc.), making these licenses better suited to enterprise-level requirements.

Can I back up to a Veeam repository when using the FREE edition of Veeam Agents for Microsoft Windows and Linux?
Yes, with the FREE edition of Veeam Agents for Microsoft Windows and Linux, you can back up to a Veeam repository backed by a licensed Veeam Backup & Replication server. However, you cannot have both FREE and paid editions of Veeam Agents backing up to a Veeam repository at the same time — you must choose to use either all FREE or all paid agents.
Is there a minimum purchase requirement for Veeam Agents for Microsoft Windows and Linux licenses?
Workstation licenses of Veeam Agents for Microsoft Windows and Linux must be purchased in quantities of at least five (5). There is no minimum purchase requirement for Server licenses, which can be purchased in any quantity.
What is Veeam’s support policy for Veeam Agents for Microsoft Windows and Linux?

FREE licenses of Veeam Agents for Microsoft Windows and Linux will be supported through Veeam’s FREE product support policy. According to this policy, Veeam will attempt to provide support for users, but does not provide response goals or response guarantees for this service. If you experience an issue with the FREE product, please submit it for our review in the dedicated forums, Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows or Veeam Agent for Linux.

Workstation and Server licenses of Veeam Agents for Microsoft Windows and Linux include 24.7.365 technical support for the term of the purchased license — from one (1) year to five (5) years.

What if I have an issue with Veeam Backup & Replication integration functionality?

If you believe the issue is not specific to Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows or Veeam Agent for Linux (for example, a general Veeam backup repository issue), and you have an active maintenance agreement, you can open a support case normally, regardless of if the issue is related to Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows, Veeam Agent for Linux or Veeam Backup & Replication.

What are Veeam Agents for IBM AIX and Oracle Solaris?
Veeam Agents for IBM AIX and Oracle Solaris are backup agents designed to ensure the Hyper-Availability of your IBM AIX and Oracle workloads by providing backup and recovery for physical servers. They are standalone products and are not part of Veeam Backup & Replication or Veeam Availability Suite.
Is there a minimum purchase requirement for Veeam Agents for IBM AIX and Oracle Solaris?
There are no minimum purchase requirements for Server licenses, which can be purchased in any quantity. 
What is Veeam’s support policy for Veeam Agents for IBM AIX and Oracle Solaris?
Server licenses for Veeam Agents for IBM AIX and Oracle Solaris include 24.7.365 Technical Support for the term of the purchased license — from one (1) year to five (5) years. 
Can I integrate these agents with Veeam Backup & Replication?
The first version will be a standalone product and WILL NOT integrate with other Veeam products nor will it be able to send backups to a Veeam backup repository.
