To start, use the Instant VM Recovery feature. For a boot up test, go through the Instant Recovery wizard and power on the VM, but do not select a checkbox to connect the VM to a network. Please note that since there is no network connectivity, some applications will not start since they cannot establish a connection to a domain controller, DNS server, or another service that it depends on.
For application recovery testing, you need to create an isolated network and edit the instantly recovered VM’s network configuration in vSphere client before powering it on. This needs to be done with all the required VMs, which run dependent applications (i.e. DC and DNS). Place them all in the same network and start them in the correct order.
