NEW Veeam Availability for AWS

Veeam Availability for AWS FAQs

What is Veeam Availability for AWS?
Veeam® Availability for AWS combines cloud-native backup, restore and DR of AWS workloads with the ability to consolidate the backup data in a central Veeam repository. The solution mitigates the risk of losing access to your cloud workloads and ensures protection of your AWS data against accidental deletion, data-level security threats and outages.
Can Veeam Availability for AWS be used as a standalone solution, or does it require other Veeam products?

Veeam Availability for AWS provides the ability to reliably move to and holistically manage a multi-cloud environment for an unprecedented level of Intelligent Data Management.

While additional value is delivered when using Veeam Availability for AWS alongside other products within the Veeam Availability Platform™, it is not required that a customer owns or purchases any other solution in order to back up and restore AWS workloads. If you are looking to consolidate both on-premises backup data and AWS backup data in a central Veeam repository, you would utilize Veeam Availability for AWS in tandem with another Veeam product (e.g., Veeam Backup & Replication™).

What AWS services does Veeam Availability for AWS protect?
Veeam Availability for AWS provides backup and recovery ability to AWS EC2 instances, EBS volumes and RDS databases, including Amazon Redshift, Amazon DynamoDB and Amazon Aurora. The ability to consolidate all data into a central Veeam repository and utilize Veeam Backup & Replication restore functionality is limited to Amazon EC2 instances. Database-oriented restores will be completed within the Veeam-N2WS appliance.
Can Veeam Availability for AWS be used by Veeam Cloud & Service Provider (VCSP) partners?
Yes, Veeam Availability for AWS can be used by VCSP partners to offer managed AWS instances, managed AWS databases and off-site data protection services for AWS, as well as cross-cloud data protection services for AWS.

General Veeam licensing information, including licensing criteria and terminology, can be viewed here.
How is Veeam Availability for AWS licensed?

Veeam Availability for AWS is licensed on a subscription basis. One-to five-year subscriptions are available and customers can choose to purchase the entire subscription upfront or pay annually. Larger discounts are provided for longer subscriptions. More pricing information can be found here and/or you can contact a reseller.

All Subscription licenses are sold per instance (available in bundles of five or 10 depending on the specific license).

How does Veeam Availability for AWS calculate non-instanced database capacity?

For each instance you purchase, you will receive 250 GB of non-instanced database capacity. For example, 20 licenses include the ability to protect 20 Amazon EC2 instances and 5 TBs of non-instanced database capacity.

If you are looking to protect larger quantities of non-instanced database capacity, simply purchase additional instance quantities that meet this ratio.

Does Veeam Availability for AWS require a certain version of Veeam Backup & Replication?
The ability to consolidate on-premises and AWS backup data in a central Veeam repository and utilize Veeam Backup & Replication for AWS-related data restores is enabled with the release of Veeam Backup & Replication 9.5 Update 4 or newer as well as the release of N2WS Backup & Recovery 2.4 or newer.
