Challenge

When exporting log files, the following error occurs:

"Cannot access collector [collector_name]".

Cause

If the nworks Enterprise Manager server is installed on Win2k8, then this behavior is caused by UAC on guest OS.

Solution

Apart from disabling UAC, there are a few more possible solutions:

  • If the EMS, the UI, and the browser are on the same machine then run the browser “Run as administrator”, manually type the address and port in the address line. This way UAC is bypassed.

  • If the EMS and the UI are on one machine, while the browser is on another machine, it is necessary to select “Use Windows credentials” when logging in to nworks UI. This way logon takes place at the IIS.

  • If the EMS, the browser, and the UI are all on different machines then logs export should work fine.
Finally, the log files can be exported manually using the path specified below for:

Enterprise Manager:
[system drive]:\Program Files\nworks\Enterprise Manager\Logs

Collectors:
\Program Files\nworks\VIC\Collector\Log
\Program Files\nworks\VIC\Collector\Data
\Program Files\nworks\VIC\Collector\Resources
\Program Files\nworks\VIC\Collector\Temp
\Program Files\nworks\VIC\Collector\xsl

More Information

The issue may be presented on W2K3 installations of nworks v5.5. If so, this is a known issue with nworks v5.5, which has been resolved in v5.6.
