Challenge

Replication job fails with the following error:

[timestamp] <01> Error Controller with BusNumber X was not found at Veeam.Backup.ViSoap.CVirtualController.GetByBusNumber(CVirtualController[] controllers, Int32 busNumber)

[timestamp] <01> Error at Veeam.Backup.ViSoap.CVirtualController.GetByTypeAndNum(CVirtualDevice[] devices, EBusType type, Int32 num)

[timestamp] <01> Info Task operation result: 'Controller with BusNumber X was not found'

Cause

The source VM with virtual hardware version 8 resides on an ESXi 5 host and is replicated to an ESX(i) host of an earlier version, which is not supported.

Solution

Replicate virtual machines with hardware version 8 to ESXi 5 hosts only.

Replication from earlier versions of ESX to ESXi 5 is supported.
