There’s a reason employers around the world trust HireRight to handle their background screening. HireRight provides flexible, tailored screening solutions containing more than 150 unique background-check services that help employers manage risk when hiring.
The stakes are high for employers. According to the Wall Street Journal, more than onethird of all employment applications contain outright lies about experience, education and ability to perform essential job functions. In fact, HireRight’s 2018 Employment Screening Benchmark Report revealed that 84% of human resources professionals reported finding a lie or misrepresentation on a resume and/or job application.
Hiring the wrong candidate can be expensive too, no matter the size of an organization. CareeerBuilder.com notes the average cost of hiring and training a new employee is $17,000. The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), which represents nearly 300,000 human resource practitioners in 165 countries, notes the average settlement of a negligent hiring lawsuit is nearly $1 million.
“Many of the world’s most forward-thinking and successful organizations rely on us to help them make the very best hiring decisions,” said Elliott Peterson, Vice President of Global IT at HireRight. “We offer some of the quickest turnaround times in the industry.”
Speed is fundamental to the hiring process. The faster HireRight can verify candidates’ resumes and job applications, the faster employers can make informed hiring decisions.
“We’re a global company, which means candidates are submitting their data to us 24/7, and employers are accessing our reports that verify data 24/7,” Peterson said. “If we experience downtime, we’re doing a disservice to everyone involved, and it affects not only our bottom line, but also our reputation.”
Slow backup and recovery can place HireRight’s IT systems at risk for downtime and may also present compliance challenges. With the Fair Credit Reporting Act in the United States providing candidates certain report request and dispute rights, and the General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”) on the horizon in the European Union where candidates are also provided access and correction rights, system stability is a necessity for compliance.
HireRight has helped to mitigate its risk of system downtime by replacing its legacy backup infrastructure with Veeam® Availability Suite™ and Nimble Storage CS-5000 from Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE).
“We conduct more than 12.5 million background checks each year to help employers find qualified candidates, and Veeam and Nimble support us every step of the way by helping to keep our IT systems available,” Peterson said. “Veeam also makes it easier for us to maintain our compliance obligations.”
Veeam backs up and replicates 5,000 VMware vSphere virtual machines (1.2 PB) from Nimble Storage snapshots. Peterson said backup and recovery speed increased by 99 percent with Veeam and Nimble, which has helped reduce the risk for downtime and made it easier to meet service level agreements (SLAs) with employers.
HireRight’s customers are employers who want to make a good impression on potential candidates. With their award-winning Applicant Center, candidates benefit from a fast and easy online intake process, which Veeam and Nimble help make possible. “Faster backup and recovery enables us to process candidates’ background checks faster so they can potentially get hired faster,” Peterson said.
Faster backup and recovery also streamline and enhance HireRight’s data management and compliance profile globally.
“Veeam makes it so easy to keep our backups separate for compliance purposes,” Peterson said. “We back up data in the European Union separately from data in the United States—it’s that simple.”
Simplicity is one of Veeam’s strongest attributes, according to Peterson.
“Veeam simplified our backup environment to such an extreme that we were able to redirect the output of two full-time employees who had focused solely on backup and recovery to other critical roles,” he said. “This strategy, combined with the cost of purchasing tapes for backup copies and storing tapes offsite, provides significant savings to HireRight each year. In fact, those savings have helped fund the build-out of two new data centers to support our growing business.”
