General Veeam licensing information, including licensing criteria and terminology, can be viewed here.
How is Veeam Availability Orchestrator licensed?
Veeam Availability Orchestrator requires an orchestrated instance license, part of Veeam’s Next Generation subscription license, where one orchestrated instance is equivalent to one VM. Orchestrated Instance licenses are non-transferable to other Veeam products. Orchestrated instance licenses include Production 24x7 Support and are sold in bundles of 10. Veeam offers flexible one-to-five-year subscription terms, which are billable on an upfront or annual basis.
Does a customer have to purchase a license for every VM in their environment?
No, you only need to purchase licenses based on the number of VM backups and/or replicas that you want to orchestrate, sold in bundles of 10.
How many orchestrated instances are required if I want to orchestrate both a backup and replica of a VM?
One. Orchestrated instances are assigned to VMs, where one orchestrated instance is equivalent to one VM, regardless of how many orchestration plans that VM is included in.
Can I remove a VM from Veeam Availability Orchestrator if it’s no longer needed and apply its license counter to another VM?
Yes, Veeam Availability Orchestrator includes dynamic licensing and licenses can be applied to VMs as they are added or removed from a failover plan.
