Production Site

Production Site

Production sites are extremely critical

Companies run their business applications and services through them and need them available 24x7. To prevent data loss, organizations leverage off-site backups. While doing so, they aim to put as little stress on the production system as possible using Veeam® Backup & Replication™ capabilities, and they prefer the full visibility of their infrastructure’s health using Veeam ONE™ monitoring and alerting. Here’s a few product features to provide additional insight on the process:

  • Distributed architecture. The distributed deployment scenario for Veeam Backup & Replication is recommended for large geographically dispersed virtual environments with multiple backup servers installed across different sites. These backup servers are federated under Veeam Backup Enterprise Manager — an optional component that provides centralized management and reporting for these servers through a web interface.
  • Backup from Storage SnapshotsVeeam allows companies to achieve a higher level of Availability by creating image-based backups and replicas from Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), NetApp, Dell EMC, Nimble, IBM and Lenovo storage snapshots as often as necessary, even during business hours, with little-to-no impact to the production environment.
  • Automatic intelligent load balancing. Veeam employs a load balancing method that automatically allocates best available resources (ex. proxy server) for backup and replication tasks to squeeze the maximum space out of the infrastructure.
  • I/O control. This feature allows businesses to set limits on how much latency is acceptable for any VMware or Hyper-V datastore that they’re doing backup from. Think of it as an SLA for organizational datastores.
  • 24x7 real-time monitoring and alerting for virtual infrastructure. Built-in Veeam ONE functionality notifies companies about backup alarms and VM performance issues, helping them to avoid downtime and meet tight SLAs.
  • Health dashboards and configuration assessment for VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V. Veeam ONE helps administrators evaluating performance of virtual infrastructure and ensures existing configuration meets all the known virtualization platform and backup best practices.
  • Advanced capacity planning with “what if” analysis and resource reservations. Forecast resource usage and utilization trends with “what if” modeling and resource overcommit tracking for company backup and virtual infrastructures.
Backup & Replication

Backup & Replication

Backup or replication? You can use both!

Veeam Backup & Replication provides 2 in 1: unified fast and reliable image-based backup and replication for vSphere and Hyper-V virtual environments, giving organizations the ability to achieve better recovery time and point objectives (RTPO™) with VM replication and reduce costs with VM backup.

  • 2 in 1: backup and replication. Veeam’s 2-in-1: backup and replication™ for VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V provides unprecedented levels of data Availability and allows organizations to seamlessly maintain the shortest RTPOs possible with the lowest infrastructure investments.
  • Transaction-consistent VM backups with advanced application-aware processing. Transaction-consistent, image-level backups are used for running VSS-aware applications, such as Microsoft Active Directory, SQL Server, Exchange and SharePoint using Veeam’s proprietary, application-aware image processing. Ensure successful recovery of business-critical applications and services, and allow for application-specific restore scenarios.
  • Built-in WAN-acceleration. Improve Availability strategy by copying backups off site to remote storage. Built-in WAN acceleration gets VMware backups off site 50x faster utilizing caching, variable block length data fingerprinting and TCP/IP protocol optimizations.
  • End-to-end encryption. Secure VMware backups at the source, in-flight and at rest without negative impact on WAN acceleration and compression, using end-to-end AES 256-bit encryption. Even if the password is lost, the administrator can still recover data from encrypted backups without compromising security.
  • Decrease storage requirements and traffic with built-in deduplication and compression. Both deduplication and compression at the source before the data has traversed the network and at the backup repository to provide the benefit of bandwidth savings without impacting backup performance, as well as additional storage savings on the backup target.
  • Full support for latest virtualization technologies. Stay on top of the game in 2017! Veeam is always first to support the latest technologies (ex. VMware CBT, vVols, vCloud Director, encrypted VMs, Microsoft Hyper-V 2016, ReFS and much more). Whenever virtualization/storage vendors release something out, be sure to update Veeam and fully experience the newest functionality.
DR/Backup Site

DR/Backup Site

Either it’s a fully functional remote office with disaster recovery (DR) infrastructure, deduplicating backup storage or simple cloud repository, it will become the most important place in case of disaster. Veeam ensures that data stored there in a cost-efficient manner, verified and can be easily recovered whenever disaster strikes. Storage-agnostic backup copies, automatic testing for backup recoverability, virtual lab for production testing as well as backup infrastructure enhanced monitoring — everything is for that purpose.

How quickly can you recover what you need?

96% of Veeam recoveries are within RTO SLAs, compared to 78% for other solutions

  • Extensive support for deduplicating storages HPE StoreOnce, ExaGrid, DataDomain. Through its “dedupe-friendly” option, which uses a RLE (Run-Length Encoding) algorithm, Veeam Backup & Replication can send Veeam-deduplicated data to a backup appliance, and then have the backup appliance apply its own native deduplication to achieve even further data reduction.
  • Secure cloud backup with Veeam Cloud ConnectVeeam Cloud Connect offers a built-in, affordable and secure cloud-based Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS)/Backup as a Service (BaaS) through a service provider of your choice. Companies no longer need to maintain their own secondary site to have reliable, image-based, VMware VM replicas off site.
  • Native tape support includes parallel processing between multiple tape drives to improve archiving performance, a global media pool to provide highly concurrent, tape archiving and native GFS retention to increase retention and save on tape to leverage all tape benefits for the organization.
  • Data verification with SureBackup®/SureReplica and storage-level corruption guard. Guarantee the recoverability of every backup and every replica restore point, every time. With these Veeam technologies, companies can run VMs from VMware vSphere backups and replicas in an isolated virtual lab and automatically test recoverability of the desired data.
  • Replica failover and replica failback in case of DR. If a production VM goes down, immediately failing over to a VM replica, will give users access to the services and applications they need with minimum disruption while you resolve the issue. When it’s sorted, fail back to original VM without any data loss.
  • 200+ pre-set alarms and 100+ predefined reports for backup infrastructure. Make sure your backup infrastructure is ready for any challenges it might encounter.
  • Backups as a source for replication. Remove additional impact on the production environment. The entire process is fully automated and no specific configurations or job settings are required. Replicating from VM backups saves significant time and reduces the read I/O on the running production VM.
  • Planned failover allows companies to run site migration or data center maintenance smoothly with minimum impact on their operations. Planned failover shuts down the source VMware VM, replicates any changes to the target VM and starts the VM — all with no data loss and little downtime. Software upgrades and planned maintenance are easy!
