Veeam® Availability Suite™ is Veeam’s flagship product that provides availability for all workloads — virtual, physical and cloud. It combines the backup, restore and replication capabilities of Veeam Backup & Replication™ with the advanced monitoring, reporting and capacity-planning functionality of Veeam ONE™. Additionally, for small-to-medium-sized businesses (SMBs), Veeam Backup Essentials offers the same functionality as Veeam Availability Suite, but in package and price points more appropriate for smaller businesses.
Veeam Backup & Replication continues to expand its capabilities and now features many capabilities that were previously included with other products. Today, Veeam Backup & Replication protects the following workloads:
Veeam Agents for Microsoft Windows and Linux, key components of the Veeam Cloud Data Management Platform for the Hybrid Cloud, are small backup agents designed to provide comprehensive backup and recovery for physical and cloud-based workloads that run on servers, workstations, desktops, laptops and more. They are managed through a single console.
All versions of Veeam Agents for Microsoft Windows and Linux are sold and licensed with VUL and can be accessed with any of the VUL license packages: Veeam Availability Suite, Veeam Backup & Replication and Veeam Backup Essentials. Veeam Agents can be managed centrally with Veeam Backup & Replication but they can be deployed as standalone products as well.
Yes, with the free editions of Veeam Agents for Microsoft Windows and Linux, you can back up to a Veeam repository that’s backed by a licensed Veeam Backup & Replication server. However, you can’t have both the free and paid editions of Veeam Agents backing up to a Veeam repository at the same time; you must choose to use either all free or all paid agents.
All versions of Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows can be deployed in server mode to enable server-specific features (e.g., application-aware processing, file indexing and searches, server-friendly scheduling and retention, etc.), making it the best choice for server backups of many enterprise applications.

The AHV Proxy is a centrally deployable, purpose-built proxy appliance designed to achieve better Nutanix API integration. Take advantage of Acropolis Change Block Tracking (CBT), deliver agentless application-consistent backups with flexible granular recovery, and native interaction with Nutanix guest tools.
Veeam Backup & Replication Community Edition offers an excellent introduction to the features and functionality of Veeam Backup & Replication. There is also a Veeam ONE Community Edition. Community Edition delivers the same functionality as Veeam Backup & Replication Standard Edition at no cost for up to 10 licenses. Veeam ONE Community Edition delivers similar functionality as Veeam ONE and is also available for free for up to 10 licenses.

Veeam Availability Suite and other related products can be used by cloud and managed service providers to deliver a wide variety of services, including data protection of Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), remote managed services for on-premises customer deployments and off-site backup and DRaaS.
Yes! Depending on your use case, multi-tenancy is available. For example, when using Veeam Backup & Replication in an IaaS environment, a VMware vCloud Director integration is available. Additionally, when delivering off-site backup and DRaaS backups powered by your cloud environment, Veeam Cloud Connect is a product that natively integrates with Veeam Backup & Replication on-premises at a customer site and passes backups and replicas through a multi-tenant cloud gateway. Veeam Cloud Connect also offers VMware vCloud Director integration.
Yes! Veeam Service Provider Console, a purpose-built solution for cloud and managed service providers, snaps onto Veeam Backup & Replication, Veeam Agents and Veeam Cloud Connect to offer remote monitoring and management capabilities.
Veeam Availability Suite, Veeam Backup & Replication, Veeam ONE and Veeam Backup Essentials can be licensed in three ways:
Certain features may be offered only with VUL due to the nature of the environment or workload.
VUL is a portable subscription license sold in bundles. This license can be used across many products or workloads interchangeably. There are one- to five-year licensing terms available and customers can choose to purchase license bundles upfront or to pay annually. Learn more about portable VUL licenses here.
Per-socket licenses are licensed per-CPU sockets on hosts with VMs for VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V only to be backed up, replicated, monitored or reported on. A license is required for each occupied motherboard socket as reported by the hypervisor API.
Customers can have a centrally managed environment with both VUL and Socket licenses. Veeam Backup & Replication and Veeam Availability Suite sockets and VUL licenses can be merged together. Veeam Backup Essentials sockets can be merged with Veeam Backup & Replication and Veeam Availability Suite VUL licenses. If you protect VMware vSphere or Microsoft Hyper-V VMs with Socket licenses, you must protect all vSphere/Hyper-V VMs with sockets in that environment, VUL licenses can be used for any other non-VM workload type.
Important note: When merging Socket and VUL licenses, be aware that the Socket license dictates the edition and capability of the merged environment. For example, if you merge Veeam Availability Suite ENT sockets with a Veeam Availability Suite VUL (ENT+), the environment is still ENT feature-set. In order to get ENT+ capabilities, users need to either a) migrate Socket licenses to VUL licenses or b) upgrade Socket licenses to the preferred edition (likely ENT+).
If a customer wants to have a centrally managed environment, they may need to merge license files. The requirement is that maintenance be current for both the per-socket and the VUL components. Reference this KB article for more details on how to merge licenses. Contact Veeam support for assistance with any issues.
Veeam offers two types of flexible license installation and merge options: 1.) in-product license installation and 2.) in-portal license merge. In-product license installation can be performed within Veeam Backup & Replication and allow users to install both Socket license and Instance licenses separately into the product. Previously merged Update 4 Socket license and Instance license keys can be downloaded as separate license files for in-product license installation in version 10.
In-portal license merges can be performed in the Veeam customer portal and allows users to merge multiple Instance licenses into one Instance license file. Users may also merge multiple Socket licenses into one Socket license file.
Refer to the Veeam licensing policy for full details on Veeam ONE monitoring capabilities based on the Veeam Backup & Replication license-merge combinations.
As a heavily discounted SMB offering, Veeam Backup Essentials is for smaller businesses, if the environment limit is exceeded, you are encouraged to upgrade to Veeam Availability Suite or Veeam Backup & Replication. If the product installation manages an environment of more than 50 instances, at the renewal of your subscription term you can choose from the following options based on your business needs:
Please contact the Veeam renewals team if you want to discuss your options or any existing promotions.
You will need a new license file for version 10 even if you do not plan to upgrade your edition. Visit the Veeam licensing portal to download an updated version 10 license file.
Note: This protocol is different for VCSP rental users. Check out the VCSP launch resource center on the ProPartner Portal for instructions.
Yes. When you upgrade to version 10, you will be required to install a new VUL.
The new license style changes consumption units, aligning to your VCSP rental point per product. For example, if you would like to entitle 50 VMs of Veeam Backup & Replication Enterprise Plus Edition, you’ll need 650 licenses on your VUL.
Additionally, Veeam ONE entitlement has been enhanced. To better support the value-added services you deliver, Veeam ONE now has a dedicated license file and offers monitoring of any Veeam Backup & Replication workload regardless of the license type or edition installed.
Instructions for obtaining your Veeam Universal License, and how to implement them in your environments, are available on the VCSP Launch Resource Center on the ProPartner Portal.
