includes Veeam Backup & Replication and Veeam ONE
Veeam® Backup Essentials™ delivers the same reliable benefits of Veeam Availability Suite™ but is specially priced for smaller businesses at a savings of up to 60%, and is limited to environments of up to 6 CPU sockets or 30 VMs only (typically found in companies with fewer than 250 employees).
Veeam Backup Essentials has three product editions — Standard, Enterprise and Enterprise Plus — providing the same functionality as Veeam Availability Suite.
The latest release of Veeam Backup Essentials offers customers the ability to manage and protect ALL workloads — virtual, physical, cloud — from a single Veeam pane of glass. It also features new strategic partnerships and storage integrations with IBM Spectrum Virtualize and Lenovo Storage V Series to lower RTOs and RPOs, plus new data management, analytics and compliance reporting for physical and cloud-based workloads.
Customers can purchase Veeam Backup Essentials through either a perpetual or a subscription license.
Perpetual licenses are purchased per socket, and come in 2-socket bundles up to a maximum of 6 CPU sockets.
Subscription licenses are available in one- to five-year licenses for 10 to 30 VMs, packaged in 5 VM bundles. Organizations must purchase or upgrade to Veeam Backup Essentials 9.5 Update 3 or newer for subscription licensing.
Licenses for Veeam Backup Essentials are purchased on a perpetual basis with basic or production maintenance, or a subscription license which includes 24x7 Production Support.
Perpetual licenses of Veeam Backup Essentials are licensed in CPU socket (2-socket bundles) on hosts with virtual machines (VMs) to be backed up, replicated, monitored or reported on. A license is required for each occupied motherboard socket as reported by the hypervisor API.
Subscription licenses of Veeam Backup Essentials are licensed per VM, for 10 to 30 VMs and packaged in 5 VM bundles. There are one- to five-year subscription licenses available, and customers can choose to purchase the entire subscription up front, or pay annually.
Note: Target hosts (for replication and migration jobs) do not need to be licensed.
No, only one edition (Standard, Enterprise, or Enterprise Plus) can be used in the same physical location. Furthermore, all licensed editions must be the same across multiple locations to manage them through one Veeam Enterprise Manager.
This requirement applies to all Veeam Backup & Replication™ deployments, including multi-hypervisor environments. For example, if you have allocated five licenses for vSphere and five licenses for Hyper-V in a given location, all ten licenses must be either Standard, Enterprise, or Enterprise Plus.
Current customers who wish to upgrade to Enterprise or Enterprise Plus must upgrade all current licenses in order to receive a merged license file.
You have three options. First, you can license Veeam Backup Essentials perpetually for six sockets to determine if this arrangement provides proper protection for your environment. If your environment has out grown this scenario then licensing either Veeam Availability Suite or Veeam Backup & Replication is your best option. Both products are offered for the difference in price between the product you’re upgrading from (Veeam Backup Essentials) to the price of the product you’re upgrading to (either Veeam Availability Suite or Veeam Backup & Replication).
It is recommended that organizations currently holding licenses for Veeam Backup Essentials and any individually licensed Veeam product contact a Veeam Sales representative to discuss appropriate upgrade options.
