Purpose

This article describes how to configure a bypass list for the Internet Proxy configured within Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365.

Solution

How it Works

The Internet Proxy Bypass configuration list uses regular expression (regex) to define which domains Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 should access directly, bypassing Internet Proxy settings.

For example, to exclude all addresses within the .local domain and veeam.com domain, use the following configuration line:

<InternetProxy BypassHosts=".+\.local;veeam\.com" />

How to Configure

  1. Ensure all Backup jobs or Restore sessions are stopped.
  2. Stop the services:
    • On the Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 Server:
      • Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 Service
      • Veeam Backup Proxy for Microsoft 365 Service
    • On Backup Proxy Servers:
      • Veeam Backup Proxy for Microsoft 365 Service
  3. Add  InternetProxy BypassHosts value.
    • The value must be added to the Proxy.xml file on the Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 server and all Backup Proxies.
      C:\ProgramData\Veeam\Backup365\Proxy.xml
    • The value must be added to the Config.xml file, which is only present on the Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 server.
      C:\ProgramData\Veeam\Backup365\Config.xml
    • This value is added directly after the <Veeeam> tag at the beginning of both the Proxy.xml and Config.xml files.
    Example:

  1. Start the services that were stopped in Step 2.

Note: The steps on this article assume that a Global Internet Proxy has been set and that all Backup Proxies have been configured to Use internet proxy settings from the management server, or they have been configured to Use the following internet proxy settings. If, however, a Backup Proxy has been configured to the option Do not use internet proxy, there is no need to modify that proxy's proxy.xml file.
