Veeam helps retail business carry out intelligent management of data and secure backups

The Business Challenge

Before installing the Veeam suite, the backups were made by a tape library. The biggest challenge that the company encountered was being uncertain if the backup would recover all the information and even if that was the case, if this would be done in an acceptable time. The outages were infrequent, but when they happened, it was extremely hard to recover the service due to the lack of necessary technology to back up the complete virtual ones. For this reason, an information retrieval entailed reinstalling the virtual one and recovering the files of the protected directories, taking a long time without the certainty of leaving the virtual server configured exactly the same. The main difficulty was and continues to be minimizing the times of unavailability of service before an incident to avoid the losses that these entail.

The Veeam Solution

The Veeam solution was presented by the company Géminis, which was already a channel for Frávega on the company’s virtualization platform. When Veeam was implemented, several events occurred which could have led to information loss. For instance, after updating the OS in Windows, the applications stopped working but thanks to Veeam’s Instant Recovery function, it was possible to recover the service almost immediately. On the other hand, on many occasions the indexing functionality was used to recover point files, such as, for example, configuration of applications or files deleted by users in the file server. For Frávega, Veeam Availability Suite is much more agile and efficient, since it does not only make recoveries almost instantaneously but it also has several additional functionalities such as making virtual technological migrations.

The Results

The main advantage that Veeam provides to Fravega in terms of business, is to reduce the downtime of productive applications. By licensing the full suite, it is possible to have all the functionalities at a much lower cost. Likewise, using Sure Recovery the platform allows us to lower the times used for recovery tests by automating them, making it possible to verify the consistency of the backups and their correct recovery, automating tests on them.,/

    Data Management solutions helped lower recovery times to almost immediately. All this, thanks to the Veeam instant recovery function and the automatic restore of the virtual to its original location, which enabled to continue providing service to the user and provisioning the virtual from the backup storage. Additionally, Frávega will be using the replication mode to replicate the virtual ones that host the different applications used in the company from our primary site to the recovery site.

  • Use of SQL Explorer to access DB SQL Server and recover partial data
  • Migrated 340 virtual machines in 3 phases with a service disruption time of 2 hours in each phase
  • Use of backup copy, to protect a second backup in AWS while the implementation of the disaster recovery site was running.
