New Resources to Jumpstart Your Kubernetes Data Protection Journey with Kasten

Since starting my own Kasten journey some 18 months ago, I’ve been continuously fascinated by the spectrum of responses to this question:

Who owns Kubernetes backup?

Veeam’s Data Protection Trends Report 2023, conducted by independent researchers surveying over 4,000 IT leaders and practitioners, includes a similar query:

Nearly an even split of responses across teams responsible for backup, storage, Kubernetes, and applications. As DevOps and Platform Engineering practices continue to blur the lines between the roles of yesteryear, it’s clear that the backgrounds of those helming Kubernetes data protection are diverse. It’s for this reason that the Kasten team pours time and effort into ease of use – not for one persona, but for all of them.

Are you the kind of person who dreams in YAML?

You’ll hit the ground running with our Kubernetes-native APIs that you can easily integrate into your Infrastructure-as-Code, CI/CD pipelines, admission controller policies, and more.

Did you recently get tossed into the deep end of the Cloud Native pool?

Having a clear UI with self-service capabilities will help you keep your head above water.

Co-workers refer to you as Victor von Veeam?

Kasten’s integration into the Veeam Backup & Replication console will provide visibility into your Kubernetes backups exactly where you would want them.

Learning by Example

As more organizations look to adopt stateful workloads like databases on their Kubernetes clusters, many of you will be faced with implementing strategies for backup, disaster recovery, and, in all likelihood, application mobility across different clusters, clouds, and distributions. And if you’re like me, you want to skip to the part where you can get hands-on in your own environment. Kasten provides a fully-featured version that’s 100% free to run on up to 5 worker nodes – but what’s the easiest way to get started?

The same way I get started whenever my lawnmower breaks, find a YouTube video of someone walking through an example. If I can build floating shelves in the bathroom for my significant other, you can become a Kasten wizard.

This week we’re launching a new “HOWTO” series on the Kasten by Veeam YouTube channel where we’ll endeavor to bring documentation to life and provide you with bite-sized example videos that you can immediately put into practice. The initial list of topics includes:

Be sure to smash that subscribe button (I’ve always wanted to say that) to catch new topics as they’re posted, or bookmark the Kasten HOWTO YouTube playlist. If you have feedback or suggestions for topics you’d like to see covered, you can join the conversation in Veeam User Groups’ Kubernetes Korner.
