It is easy to miss all of the new advancements and capabilities that Veeam has recently delivered. With the release of Veeam Backup & Replication 9.5 Update 3, some of the big news is a serious advancement in the storage integrations, including the addition of Lenovo storage. In this post, we’ll discuss the new Veeam primary storage integration with Lenovo Storage V Series.

With the introduction of Veeam Availability Suite 9.3 Update 3, Veeam brings storage integrated backup and recovery to a wide selection of IBM Storage offerings, helping business of all sizes meet ever increasing recovery service level agreements for IT services and their applications and data.

Let’s face it, for today’s Always-On Enterprise, the amount of data — and the rate it is changing — makes the traditional nightly backup strategy most organizations rely on obsolete. Today’s pace of business requires more frequent restore points to choose from. And unless your users are OK with business standing still when things go wrong, you’ve got to restore and recover quickly as well.

The HPE and Veeam partnership brings comprehensive data protection for Hybrid IT. Veeam software integration with HPE storage solutions lets you create application-consistent backups from HPE storage snapshots for fast and efficient data protection. For long-term external storage, HPE StoreOnce provides deduplication for efficient storage utilization and fault isolation for data.

I’m dusting off my cowboy boots and getting ready to head down to the Lone Star State (Texas) for Cisco’s annual partner summit in a couple weeks. The Cisco Partner Summit is their premier, invite-only partner event held annually for their top partner executives. This year’s theme is “OWN IT,” and as it rapidly approaches, I thought about how Veeam and Cisco is well on their way to OWN IT and enable their customers to do the same, together.

You most likely know that Veeam leverages storage integration with (Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), Nimble Storage, NetApp, Dell EMC and Cisco HyperFlex to provide Backup from Storage Snapshots capability, which helps reduce the impact on the production data and performance due to data protection activity. You may also know that Veeam can also provide backup from a secondary storage array to reduce impact on the production environment even further with Nimble Storage and NetApp. And as an Alliance Systems Engineer in charge of HPE, I often get the following question from HPE technical field people: “Why don’t you support this with 3PAR?” Well, we do!

With Veeam Backup & Replication 9.5 Update 2 we launched our integration with Cisco HyperFlex. The integration leverages our Backup from Storage Snapshot technology to optimize the data transfer for Veeam backups as well as replications. Since then I got a lot of positive feedback and questions around the integration. That’s why I want to answer the most common questions in this blog post. A brief overview on the integration itself was already done by my colleague Michael Cade earlier this year.

Close to seven years ago, Veeam and Quantum came together to offer Veeam Backup & Replication as a tested and validated software for interoperability with Quantum DXi Series network attached storage (NAS) backup appliances. Enhanced support for any deduplication appliance, including Quantum DXi appliances, was included with Veeam Availability Suite v9. And with Quantum’s recent announcement, our partnership continues to expand and evolve.

In early February 2017, Cisco announced their 2.0 release of HyperFlex. The noticeable innovations are the introduction of All Flash HX nodes with 3rd generation UCS Fabric networking, as well as even better support for data and I/O intensive applications. These innovations already enhance the existing flexible and modular platform, which combines compute performance nodes, hyper converged storage and networking.

But there is more in HX 2.0 than what is mentioned above.

Data Availability has become more and more important for today’s businesses. The NetApp Data ONTAP and Veeam combination provides a high Availability level for the Always-On Enterprise. By leveraging NetApp data protection features like snapshots, SnapMirror and SnapVault, Veeam is able to enhance recovery time and recovery point objectives, otherwise known as RTPO, for VMs and applications residing on NFS-, FC-, FCoE- and iSCSI-based arrays.

Some enterprise data centers are leveraging NetApp’s ability to cascade ONTAP systems to maximize Availability. In this blogpost, I explain the benefits of leveraging an ONTAP cascaded design with Veeam.
