Veeam and Scality Continue to Deliver Well-Integrated, Market-Leading Immutable Storage and Recovery Solutions

One of the key tenets of Veeam is data freedom. Our platform helps customers achieve deeper cyber resilience with multilayered data security and recovery capabilities, no matter where your data backups reside. And while so much of the focus in IT and security circles is on the cloud, often hardware appliances make sense for particular use cases.

With these two points in mind, we’re proud to announce the latest development in our long-standing relationship with Scality. Declared a Leader for eight consecutive years in the Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Distributed File Systems and Object Storage, Scality is known for its simple, lightweight object storage software for immutable backups. Used together, Veeam and Scality offer a powerhouse combination to strengthen your last line of defense — backup storage and recovery — against cyberattacks.

Until now, Scality deployed its ARTESCA software, capable of Veeam integrations, on a secure software appliance or virtual appliance. Companies that wanted a hardware option needed to install ARTESCA themselves or with the help of a channel partner. Customers were looking for an integrated solution for quicker time to value — and quicker time to stronger cyber resilience.

Expanding the Scality-Veeam Partnership to Hardware-Based Backups

Scality’s new option for hardware backups is exclusive to Veeam — a strong demonstration of our connected roadmaps that bring well-integrated solutions to customers so they can gain peace of mind that their backups are immutable and secure even faster.

This new hardware appliance expands Scality’s position as a Veeam partner providing a single-vendor, multi-tier backup architecture. Scality provides the flexibility for IT leaders to optimize for any required storage tier (performance, capacity, long-term retention), with the freedom to choose the appliance that best fits their use case while streamlining deployment.

Scality Artesca Hardware Appliance Features

Out of the box, customers of the new ARTESCA secured hardware appliance for Veeam receive:

  • A simplified single-vendor architecture for immutable ransomware protection
  • Hardware pre-loaded with ARTESCA object storage software and configured for Veeam Backup & Replication and Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365
  • A quick-start wizard to simplify installation in your environment
  • Integration with the Veeam Smart Object Storage API (SOSAPI), enabling the Veeam Backup & Replication (VBR) console to display Scality capacity for easy tracking
  • ARTESCA’s five levels of cyber resilience, which includes (but is not limited to) Veeam V12 direct-to-object backups; automated enforcement of validated IAM access control policies; multi-factor authentication; automated firewall rules on deployment; and core architecture resilience with integrated, security-hardened Linux OS that precludes root access and reduces exposure to common vulnerabilities and exposures
  • Availability in a variety of capacity sizes, from 96TB to 648TB

Where Veeam Fits In

For anyone unfamiliar with the Veeam side of this story, our solution offers data recovery capabilities with near-instantaneous results and 5x faster recovery for mission critical applications, according to IDC, which currently ranks Veeam No. 1 in the world for market share for Data Replication & Protection software.

The Veeam Data Platform offers multilayer protection for your data — anywhere it’s located — with fast, application-aware, image-based backups; sub-minute RPO and failover to the latest state; and one-click site recovery. Our built-in intelligence identifies and helps resolve common misconfiguration and backup problems, while supporting effective capacity planning and forecasting, to ease backup management and strengthen resilience.

Delivering on the Veeam 3-2-1-1-0 Backup Strategy

Together, Veeam and Scality deliver what we call the 3-2-1-1-0 backup strategy. The traditional 3-2-1 backup strategy means having three copies of your data on two different media with one copy being offsite. The Veeam difference, supported by Scality, adds one copy that is offline, air-gapped, or immutable, and zero errors with Veeam SureBackup recovery verification.

With 3-2-1-1-0, you get peace of mind for your backups — the last line of defense in ensuring business continuity and safeguarding your data in a world where ransomware keeps increasing. According to the 2023 Veeam Ransomware Trends Report, 85% of surveyed companies had experienced at least one cyberattack in the prior 12 months. For those affected, only 66% of data was recoverable. Yet, the majority (79%) of surveyed organizations still have protection gaps.

With Veeam and Scality, you get market-leading solutions that are tightly integrated. You’ll have peace of mind that if your systems are breached in any capacity, you can refuse to pay a ransom because you know your data is safely stored on Scality, while Veeam will enable lightning-quick recovery. And with the new Veeam-only hardware appliance, you can get up and running without friction or additional implementation costs.
