Veeam Support Statement for SAP HANA 1.0

Veeam Support Statement for SAP HANA 1.0 SPS12.

Solution

Since the release of Veeam Backup & Replication 9.5 Update 4, Veeam Plug-in for SAP HANA supports SAP HANA 1.0 SPS12 database systems as "Experimental". For details on experimental support, see KB 2976.

To read the official SAP statement that Veeam Plug-in for SAP HANA is a certified backup tool for SAP HANA 1.0 and 2.0 (HANA-BRINT 1.1), see "Backint for SAP HANA" Certification.

This statement is true for single database systems as well as multi-tenant database systems. SAP HANA version must be 1.0 SPS12 or later. Note that SAP HANA version must be officially supported by SAP.

If you want to configure Veeam Plug-in for SAP HANA to back up SAP HANA 1.0 databases, you must perform the following additional steps (apart from instructions described in the Configuring Veeam Plug-in for SAP HANA section of the Veeam Plug-ins for Enterprise Applications User Guide).

The SapBackintConfigTool --wizard command will end with an error message "boost::filesystem::create_symlink: No such file or directory", as the configuration tool can not set the required hdbbackint symbolic link. The error occurs because the folder structure in SAP HANA 1.0 is different. To resove the issue perform the following:
  1. Go to /usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/global/hdb/ and check if the "opt" folder exists. If this folder does not exist, login as the <sid>adm user and create the folder.
  2. Run the following command to create a symbolic link (use SID of your database instead of <SID>):
    ln -s /opt/veeam/VeeamPluginforSAPHANA/hdbbackint /usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/global/hdb/opt/hdbbackint
    If there is already a symbolic link from another backup product, you need to replace it if you want to use Veeam Plug-in for SAP HANA. 
  3. Continue configuring the Veeam Plug-in as described in the Configuring Veeam Plug-in for SAP HANA.
