The following settings were used by the vendor to meet Veeam Ready testing requirements and should not be considered best practices. Additional changes or settings may be needed to meet the storage efficiency or performance needs for each environment. For each setting, reference links are provided for further clarification.

Vendor recommended configuration:

Hardware Settings:

  • All QuantaStor 5 configurations are supported but systems must meet minimum specifications of 8x or more data devices, 64GB of RAM, and at least 10x 2GHz processor cores or faster CPUs per server.
  • RAM cache used for reads is called ARC, QuantaStor uses OpenZFS technology which is integrated into the SDS platform.
  • SMB protocol used for all testing, and SMB write-through mode is enabled by default. QuantaStor also supports FC, iSCSI, NFS and S3 Object. 
  • ‘Disk Archive’ Storage Profile was used, Record Size was adjusted to 1M per Veeam recommendations.
  • Jumbo frames used in testing – Yes, MTU=9000
  • Array compression used in testing – No
  • Array deduplication used in testing – No
SMB write-through is supported on this platform and was used in the Veeam Ready testing. 
You must enable the SMB write-through setting on the storage to avoid issues that are described in the following knowledge base entry: KB3124.
