Nested Virtualization – Build a test environment with Hyper-V

From time to time, we need to test something in our infrastructure. Production is not good idea for this, so we build a test environment. Sometimes, such tests may require changes in the hypervisor, which we want to avoid in the production. In such cases, we can work on dedicated test hardware or we can virtualize. Virtualization nesting can be helpful for development, getting familiar with new technologies, new product versions or learning purposes where we can easily simulate our production environment. In this article, we'll explore how to build the test environment on different platforms with help of nested virtualization. Read more

VeeamON 2017 breakouts: the BEST content for everyone

In one of my roles at Veeam, I have the privilege of working on the core team at VeeamON. 2017 marks the third VeeamON global event, and I’m more excited than ever for this year’s event. At current count, we have 88 breakouts that bring the full scope of content needed to allow organizations of all types to Experience Availability.

For the decision maker, I would like to highlight the business tracks (designated with “VB” in the track numbers). The business tracks are a bit different this year because we’ve introduced a few customer panels to discuss current implementations from profile organizations from around the world, such as National Bank of Abu Dhabi, Hologic, University ... Ransomware resiliency & Availability: The endpoint is a great place to start

Fighting ransomware has become a part of doing business today. Technology professionals around the world are advocating many ways to stay resilient. The most effective method is to have end-user training on how to handle and operate attachments and connectivity to the Internet. One other area to look is frequent endpoint devices: Laptops and PCs.

Why legacy backup solutions belong to the past

The world is becoming increasingly digital and technology is designed to make our lives easier. To meet the most demanding needs of their customers and users, firms must provide unconditioned access to their services. For many of these organizations, this is at best a challenge and at worst a survival matter.

Many organizations are still anchored in the past with their infrastructures reliant on legacy backup solutions and they just can’t do the job. It is the responsibility of the CIO and IT executives to navigate their organizations through digital transformation. But why is Availability so important?

Availability is more than just backup. It provides 24.7.365 access to an increasing amount of data from any device, anywhere. Organizations invest in virtualization, sophisticated ... Read more

Veeam false rumors

“Rumor”: A currently circulating story or report of uncertain or doubtful truth.

By definition, a rumor is dubious — at best. That said, many people still interpret rumors as facts. I would now like to address the recent rumors about Veeam directly.

Over the past few days, several media articles have circulated across the globe stating that Veeam is an acquisition target. While we may be a target (frankly speaking, many vendors would probably love to integrate Veeam’s world-class Availability solutions into their own portfolios!), I am happy to state on the record that Veeam is not for sale and this is not part of our company strategy.

For the past decade, Veeam has been innovating Availability solutions that are easily the ... Read more

Data deduplication using both Windows Server 2016 and Veeam

It’s no secret that data management is an important part of a system administrator’s agenda. We are constantly looking to implement technologies and services that allow us to manage information flow better and let us store data efficiently without eating up our budget. There are many ways to achieve that but today I wanted to talk about one special example — Data Deduplication technology. Read more

World Availability Day 2017 – more than just backups

In the observance of World Availability Day, I wish all of you stay out of downtime and have your data always there for you and your customers. Yes, we know that tomorrow is World Backup Day, but we consider that backups are insufficient for modern organizations. They need more than that, they need unconditional access to their applications and data, anywhere at any time.

Experience Availability – Happy World Availability Day!

It is a well-known and accepted fact that data rules our modern lives – we feed on it (email, calendar, maps, newsfeeds), we travel with it (Uber, train schedules, any airline) and we sleep with it (ALL fitness trackers available in the market monitor sleep patterns).

Therefore, it comes as no surprise when we at Veeam evangelize the importance of data Availability 24.7.365 because to put it quite simply, it’s our survival. Not only as individuals but as part of an organization, part of the economy, part of our “global village.” The ramifications of not meeting these expectations run deeper than just merely an inconvenience, but can cause the kind of issues that keep everyone from the IT Pro to ... 4 tips for delivering Availability in the Hybrid Cloud

The Digital Transformation of business is driving IT to evolve in order to satisfy flexible business processes and requirements, which lately involves more and more heterogeneous production systems. Modern IT environments are not limited to physical servers, but also operate on virtual machines and store data offsite, in the cloud. Today organizations are running a mixture of technologies (with virtualization as the prevailing standard) that need to be available 24.7.365. This is not a straightforward task – trust me!

So, what matters the most when looking to address modern organizations' protection issues? In a recent study, ESG highlighted four important features:

Service Level Agreements (SLAs) should lead to the right solution. In the life of an ... Read more
