3 Essential characteristics of managing planned downtime

Downtime can be an unpopular topic in regards to keeping IT services available today. But downtime does need to happen, whether it is to avoid an outage pre-emptively (such as an upcoming weather disaster) or to do much-needed maintenance and modernizations of critical systems. Whatever the reason, planned downtime does need to happen.

Everyone knows that unplanned downtime is not a popular topic, and the 2017 Veeam Availability report proves it! Modern enterprises can schedule downtime, and it can be an investment to perform necessary changes. In this blog, here are 3 essential characteristics of planned downtime for the IT decision maker:

Planned downtime can be an investment to avoid unplanned downtime. We never want ... Read more

Veeam and NetApp: A partnership forged by change

It’s been a challenging and emotional week. The horrific tragedy in Las Vegas has left us all heartbroken and a bit numb. With NetApp Insight scheduled this week, the decision was made to cancel the first day’s events and activities, but resume the conference and sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday, as planned. I’m sure it was a difficult and delicate decision for our friends at NetApp to make, but they have shown respect, class and leadership to all this week. We are proud to call them partners.

Being with the Veeam team, our partners and customers is the best part of my job, and this week was no different, although it was under very surreal circumstances and a bit more subdued. ... Read more

Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 1.5 is now available

Software as a Service, and especially Microsoft Office 365, has become more and more popular in today’s world. Software as a Service brings many advantages over implementing a service on premises, but also brings forth some new challenges. Here’s a good read on Office 365-related challenges.

However, the most important question you should ask yourself is: How much does my business rely on email?

“Stacks” of Innovation from Veeam and Microsoft

I’m in Orlando with my emotions torn.

Firstly, I feel humbled by the welcome all of those attending Microsoft Ignite have received from a city that has been through so much in the past few weeks. Hurricane Irma inflicted so much destruction and devastation across the state, and to be welcomed in such a warm way by folks who are still picking up the pieces proves that human spirit and determination can overcome so much. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected, and we all hope that the worst is over.

Secondly, I am super excited about this week. I’ve been to Ignite many times, several while carrying a Microsoft business card, but to be here ... Read more

Ten years of the iPhone: Where are we today?

It seems that, like most of the planet, I waited for Apple’s big announcement two weeks ago with baited breath. My iPhone is (almost) my life. It sounds sad, but due to the amount I travel, that little device is the one thing that keeps me on track and in touch with everyone. Now that the dust from the announcement has settled, and everyone knows to say “10” instead of “X,” I can honestly say that I believe Apple has again moved us all forward with the iPhone X, 8 and 8 Plus. It also got me thinking about celebrating a decade since the iPhone first entered our lives and what other technologies have impacted us in this time. The ... Read more

Why hybrid cloud is the new normal for enterprises

We are living in times when it’s hard to imagine our lives without technology. Our center of command is sitting in our pockets, and we are just a few taps away from booking a flight, checking our bank account or reading the news about our favorite football team. Our fast pace of life demands uninterrupted access to each application on any type of device from everywhere. Therefore, organizations need not only speed and versatility, they also need what we call Availability.

Hybrid cloud lays the groundwork for our digital future

Digital transformation is a topic that is not only dominating the headlines, but also dominating emerging IT strategies and, increasingly, the investments of nearly every company. In the words of Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, “Over the next 10 years, we’ll reach a point where everything is digitized.” You’ve read and heard from Veeam many times about how multi-cloud strategies are emerging as a winning proposition to enable the agility and Availability organizations need to realize their digital transformation goals.

These ideas were on full display last week at VMworld in Las Vegas. Long a pioneer and leader in transformational technologies like virtualization and the Software Defined Data Center, VMware formally launched its partnership ... Read more

Veeam for the Microsoft Cloud at Microsoft Ignite

Greetings fellow IT professionals! After more than 20 years of TechEd in the late spring and early summer, Microsoft will give us Microsoft Ignite (formerly TechEd) in the fall from Sept. 25 – 29, 2017 in beautiful Orlando, Florida. The sky (well, the cloud) is the limit as Veeam announces Veeam Availability Suite for VMware Cloud on AWS

Cloud adoption is soaring. According to IDC, worldwide spending on public cloud computing will increase from $67 billion in 2015 to $162 billion in 2020, attaining a 19% CAGR (Compound Annual Growth Rate) . The cloud is here to stay, and it’s only going to become more important.

As enterprises move to the cloud, however, ensuring data Availability has become more critical. This includes making sure that users can access information at any time and from anywhere. Veeam is a pioneer in this space, delivering bullet-proof Availability for multi-cloud or hybrid-cloud environments, regardless of whether the environment is private, public, managed or SaaS (Software as a Service). Taking this to the next level, as ... Read more
