Veeam celebrates turning a decade old — A look back at the last ten years and forward to the next ten

We recently turned ten, and while some of our teams across the globe celebrated with cupcakes and balloons, others celebrated our company’s birthday during the grand opening of their new, official offices. In light of all these celebrations, I took some time to ponder my history at Veeam since I joined in December 2007 as employee number 8, outside of Russia.

Veeam has been fortunate to not only survive, but thrive, during one of the most turbulent and interesting periods in IT history. New technologies have emerged that have changed the way businesses think about IT, while ubiquitous connectivity has driven fundamental shifts in how we live and work. The company was founded when cloud was in its infancy and many ... Read more

A tale of two cities with one conclusion: Veeam has arrived!

I have now been with Veeam for around 100 days. So far, it’s been a rollercoaster ride and a lot of air miles that included two stand-out trips: VMworld US in Las Vegas and VMworld Europe in Barcelona. These events may sound the same, but to me, the experiences were a million miles apart.

VMworld US used to be my show in my previous position at VMware. And now, attending this event as Veeam President and COO was a different experience. It was different, not only because it was held in Vegas for the first time, but also because every 50 yards someone — a former VMware colleague, partner or customer — would grab my arm and say “Hey!” I ... BaaS, DRaaS or Both? Plenty of cloud Availability options with Veeam!

One of the common things that happen in my group of evangelists is helping organizations of all sizes take an Availability strategy to the cloud. When it comes to the cloud, Veeam has a lot of options and has had so for a number of years.

I frequently go back to one question: “What are you wanting to accomplish with a cloud or service provider technology?” This is where the answers get interesting. I’ve heard everything from: “I’m out of space in my data center,” “I want cheap storage,” “I have a credit to use in Azure,” “I want complete disaster recovery,” “I want to get data off-site but don’t have a second site myself,” and more.

Direct Restore to Microsoft Azure – now integrated in Veeam Backup & Replication 9.5

Veeam Backup & Replication 9.5 is just around the corner. I have been testing the beta version for two months now, and I tested the first promised feature — the Veeam-Nimble integration — a month ago. Today, I’ll demonstrate the test of another enhancement — integrated Direct Restore to Microsoft Azure.

Direct Restore to Microsoft Azure was released several months ago as a standalone Azure appliance, and it is available for free at the Microsoft Azure Marketplace. Direct Restore to Microsoft Azure will become fully integrated in Veeam Backup & Replication in 9.5.

Enterprise datacenter Availability with NetApp cascaded SnapMirror and Veeam

Data Availability has become more and more important for today’s businesses. The NetApp Data ONTAP and Veeam combination provides a high Availability level for the Always-On Enterprise. By leveraging NetApp data protection features like snapshots, SnapMirror and SnapVault, Veeam is able to enhance recovery time and recovery point objectives, otherwise known as RTPO, for VMs and applications residing on NFS-, FC-, FCoE- and iSCSI-based arrays.

Some enterprise data centers are leveraging NetApp’s ability to cascade ONTAP systems to maximize Availability. In this blogpost, I explain the benefits of leveraging an ONTAP cascaded design with Veeam.

Want fries with that hyper-converged infrastructure?

Hyper-converged infrastructure environments are increasing in popularity for many reasons, especially for ROBO (Remote Office / Branch Office) environments. They are integrated software-defined systems that combine compute, network, storage and virtualization with a software layer that provides a single system of managed IT. Hyper-converged infrastructures are easy to deploy, manage and offer IT agility and flexibility as well as a decrease in operational costs and the resources needed to manage them.
