The issue documented in this article was fixed in Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows 6.0.2.1090, which was released alongside Veeam Backup & Replication 12.0.0.1420 P20230412.

Challenge

A Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows v6 Backup Job for a machine running Windows 7 or Server 2008 R2 fails with the error:

Exception of type 'Veeam.Backup.AgentProvider.AgentClosedException' was thrown.

When this occurs, the following error can be found in the Windows Logs > Application event log:

Solution

For Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows managed by Veeam Backup & Replication Protection Group

Update Veeam Backup & Replication to 12.0.0.1420 P20230412 or higher, then upgrade Veeam Agent deployments.

For Standalone Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows Deployments

Download and install Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows 6.0.2.1090 or higher directly on the machine where Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows is operating in standalone configuration.
