TGW Logistics is at the forefront of warehouse automation, delivering intelligent robotics and fully integrated systems to customers worldwide. From grocery to apparel, TGW Logistics empowers diverse industries with cutting-edge solutions that orchestrate every step of the material handling process. Advanced technology is the key to TGW Logistics’ competitive edge, enabling seamless project execution and ongoing innovation.
“To deliver exceptional service, employees across 24 offices and production sites around the world rely on tightly integrated processes and the high-tech tools that support them,” said Thomas Baldauf, IT Enterprise Architect at TGW Logistics. “System downtime would bring operations to a standstill — imagine 300 workers arriving at a facility, only to be sent home. The impact, financially and operationally, would be immediate and severe.”
With business growth accelerating and the cyber threat landscape evolving rapidly, TGW Logistics recognized the need to bolster its data protection strategy. Safeguarding critical systems and ensuring rapid recovery from any disruption became a top priority.
“Effective data protection is a key part of any successful cybersecurity strategy,” said Thomas Baldauf. “We saw a clear opportunity to elevate our resilience and secure our future by adopting the most advanced data protection technologies available.”
To transform its vision for always-on operations into reality, TGW Logistics partnered with its trusted in-house provider mann&mouse IT Services GmbH, Veeam Premium Partner, ANIO Solutions GmbH, and storage innovator Pure Storage. Together, they designed and implemented a next-generation data resilience architecture centered on Veeam.
Building on years of proven success with Veeam Data Platform Advanced, TGW Logistics took data protection to the next level. By deploying Veeam in a newly established, standalone data center — completely separate from its production environments — the company created an additional layer of cyber-resilience. The integration of Veeam with Pure Storage FlashArray//E’s lightning-fast, all-flash technology further accelerated backup and recovery, delivering greater performance and peace of mind.
With Veeam, TGW Logistics powers comprehensive protection for a diverse ecosystem: 760 virtual machines running on 40 physical servers across two Austrian data centers, alongside mission-critical SAP HANA databases and an enterprise-scale document management system accessed by 4,500 users on three continents. Centralized IT services, including secure patch and software distribution, ensure consistent security and operational excellence worldwide.
TGW Logistics now runs seven ANIO appliances powered by Veeam at large hub locations around the world. Backups from all global sites are replicated to the new data center in Austria. Currently, Veeam protects a total of around 1 PB of data at TGW Logistics.
“By modernizing with Veeam and Pure Storage, we’ve achieved highly efficient data protection,” said Thomas Baldauf. “Our data protection processes are now eight times faster, while energy usage has dropped by 80%. Veeam’s advanced compression and deduplication save us more than 70% in physical storage — a significant boost to both sustainability and operational agility.”
To gain real-time insight into performance and generate detailed reports, TGW Logistics and its managed service provider mann&mouse IT Services use Veeam ONE to monitor, analyze, and optimize performance in real time across its global environment. “Veeam ONE gives us a unified view and actionable insights,” said Thomas Baldauf. “We can proactively fine-tune our resource allocation and continuously improve our data protection posture.”
To guard against ransomware and evolving cyber threats, TGW Logistics implemented immutable backups using Veeam — backed by proactive verification via Veeam SureBackup. With Veeam Threat Hunter and Anomaly Detection, the company rapidly identifies and neutralizes potential risks.
“Routine, automated verification and malware scanning give us new confidence,” said Thomas Baldauf. “We can detect issues before they become problems — enabling uninterrupted service, greater reliability, and stronger IT security for our entire workforce.”
TGW Logistics is already looking ahead. “With Veeam, we can future-proof our hybrid cloud strategy and protect every critical workload, no matter where it runs,” Baldauf concluded. “We’re excited to keep innovating with Veeam as we expand our leadership in automated logistics.”
