Frequently Asked Questions

Are the instructor-led training courses delivered by Veeam?
All Veeam instructor-led training is delivered by Veeam Authorized Education Centers (VMAECs) and led by Veeam Certified Trainers (VMCTs) only.
Where can I locate my closest Veeam Authorized Education Center (VMAEC)?
Veeam offers a wide network of VMAECs across the globe. You may search for your closest VMAEC location here.
There is not a Veeam Authorized Education Center (VMAEC) near me. What are my options?
VMAEC’s deliver classes in both classroom environments, where you can attend remotely, and live online formats. Check with a VMAEC close to you, or with your preferred language, for their schedule.
How much does it cost to attend an instructor-led training course?
Pricing is available from the VMAEC directly.
Are courses available in different languages?
Veeam instructor-led coursework is provided primarily in English, but classes are often delivered in the local language.
Why is my profile not showing the course as complete?
Once you have completed the class and your attendance is reported, verified and uploaded, the course will show as complete. However, this process can take up to five business days. If you still can’t see the completion verification after this time period, please let us know. Your region’s support email address can be found in the “Support” section below.
Can I self-study online in place of a class and then take just the exam?
To qualify to take a Veeam certification exam, you must attend the pre-requisite class delivered by a Veeam Authorized Educational Center (VMAEC). There is no self-study option at this time, but, a self-paced VMCE training will be available in 2024. More details to come, once available.
I only work with VMware. Do I need to study the Microsoft content to pass the exam?
All content provided in the course is necessary to study and pass the exam.
Will the class cover everything I need to pass the exam?
Veeam instructor-led training courses cover a wide array of content. However, it is expected that you have a minimum of six months of commercial experience with Veeam prior to taking this course. Please review the exam study guide provided for further insight and resources.
I’m attending a class remotely. What do I need?
For the best experience, you should have a good quality internet connection and two monitors. Check with your VMAEC for further details and requirements for attending a remote class.
I want to sit for the Veeam Backup & Replication: Architecture and Design course. Do I need to take the Veeam Backup & Replication v12: Configure, Manage and Recover course beforehand?
The Veeam Backup & Replication v12: Configure, Manage and Recover course is recommended before attending the Veeam Backup & Replication: Architecture and Design course, but not required. The Veeam Backup & Replication: Configure, Manage and Recover class tests your knowledge of Veeam architecture, design and key features, including concepts and configurations taught in the Configuration and Management course. This is very useful for the Architecture and Design course.
How do I book a certification exam?
  1. Once you have completed the required training course, log into your Veeam account. If you do not have an account, register for one using the email you used when booking your course.
  2. Go to the certification tab.
  3. Select your desired exam on Step 2 and click “MANAGE ... EXAM” to schedule the exam.

  5. Fill in all required information.
  6. Confirm that all information is accurate and make sure your name matches your identification exactly.

What is the minimum passing score?
The minimum passing score is 720 on a scale of 300 to 900.
What is scaled scoring?
A candidate’s raw score (i.e., total number of correct questions) is converted into a scaled score for reporting purposes. Scaled scoring is necessary since Veeam uses multiple versions of the exam. Scaled scoring allows for a more accurate reflection of competency and fairness across the different forms.
Can I view my raw score?
No. Since multiple examination forms are used, the raw score on an examination form is meaningless until it’s transformed to a scaled score.
How much time will I get to take the exam?
Candidates are given 75 minutes to sit the VMCE exam, and 90 minutes to sit the VMCA exam.
How is the passing score for the exam set?
The passing score is established through a process called Angoff Standard Setting. A panel of certified engineers and/or architects determine the minimum level of knowledge or competency a candidate must demonstrate to pass the exam.
My score was just below passing, can an exception be made?
No. Since Veeam uses a scaled score, how close you are to a passing score can vary slightly across forms. Calculations made for your scaled score may put your raw score further away from competency than the scaled score reflects.
What languages can I take the exam in?
VMCE v12 and VMCA are available in English only.
Do I get extra time for taking the exam in a second language?
An additional 15-minute accommodation will be granted to test takers that reside in a non-native English-speaking country. Contact Pearson Vue Testing Center for a list of these countries.
How many questions are on the exam?
There are 60 questions in the VMCE exam and 40 questions in the VMCA exam.
Why is the VMCE exam 60 questions as opposed to 50 questions?
Veeam uses item seeding to allow for 10 unscored test questions to be included in the examination. This allows for testing and analytics to be gathered for new questions that will allow us to update the exam more frequently.
Why hasn’t the duration of the VMCE exam shifted to account for these unscored questions?
The items created for this certification were analyzed to account for the average amount of time needed to complete. Initial analysis of these completed forms shows an industry standard of 1.2 minutes per item, which falls within 75 minutes.
Is it required to attend a class before taking the exam?
Yes, an instructor-led class is a pre-requisite for all current Veeam exams.
How much does the exam cost?
The price varies by country. To get detailed pricing, please contact Pearson VUE directly.
Why do I have to pay extra for the exam?
The exam costs are not included in the course cost because not every course attendee wants to take the exam.
Where can I take a Veeam exam?
Most Pearson VUE test centers offer Veeam exams. You can also sit for the exam from home or in-office with Pearson VUE online proctored platform. Requirements for sitting the exam online can be found here.
I have completed a course and would like to book my exam, but I can’t find it on my profile. Why is this?
Once you have completed the class and your attendance is reported, verified, and uploaded, the course will show as complete. However, this process can take up to five business days. If you still can’t see the completion verification after this time period, please let us know. Your region’s support email address can be found in the “Contacts” section below.
Can I take the exam immediately after attending the required course?
You may take the exam as soon as your course attendance is verified. We do, however, recommend you spend 30 days reviewing the material after completing the course for the best chance of exam success.
When will the VMCE 2021 exam and supporting courseware be retired?
  • Candidates will be able to sit the VMCE 2021 exam up until Dec. 29, 2023.
  • Registration for the 2021 course will close as of Nov. 15, 2023.
How do I reschedule or cancel an exam?

If you wish to reschedule or cancel your exam, you may do this online via your account and follow the instructions below, or contact the Pearson VUE customer service team at least 48 hours before your scheduled exam appointment. NOTE: Rescheduling or cancelling less than 48 hours before your appointment will result in forfeiting your exam fee. To cancel or reschedule an exam online:

  1. Log into your Veeam account.
  2. Go to the certification tab.
  3. Select your desired exam and click “MANAGE ... EXAM” which will automatically sign you into your Pearson VUE account.
  4. Select either "cancel" or "reschedule".
I did not pass the exam. When can I retake it?

There is a 24-hour waiting period after the first failed attempt and a 14-calendar day waiting period after the second through the fourth failed attempt. After the fifth failed attempt, there is a 12-month waiting period, or a request can be submitted with prior permission from the Veeam operations team at vmce@veeam.com. After the candidate has waited 12 months, they can take the exam for attempt six through nine. After that, candidates must wait 12 months again, or submit a request and obtain permission from the Veeam VMCE security team.

If an exam is failed, and the exam is subsequently retired, no retake option will be available.

Once a candidate has passed an exam, the exam cannot be retaken until a new major exam revision is released.

I want to sit for the VMCA exam, do I need to have passed the VMCE exam beforehand?
The VMCE certification is strongly recommended before taking the VMCA exam, but it is not a hard requirement. The VMCA exam tests knowledge of architecture and design. An understanding of the key features, concepts and configuration tested in the VMCE exam, is extremely useful.
How will I get my VMCE exam results?

About 30 minutes after you complete the exam, you will receive an email from Pearson Vue with your test results. Results are not displayed on screen at the end of the test.

Pearson Vue's platform will send the results to your Veeam.com account overnight. The day after your exam, you may access your badge and certificate at https://www.veeam.com/vmce-certification.html
