#1 Global Leader in Data Resilience

Frequently Asked Questions

Which options do I have to attend a Veeam course?

The Veeam Education Program is continually evolving and adapting to meet new needs. Currently, we offer multiple options for attending our courses.

You can either attend the course in a classroom or remotely with an instructor, or you can choose the eLearning subscription mode, to attend the self-paced course.

Check which option is available for the course you need on our main page.  https://www.veeam.com/support/training/vmce-training.html

What is Veeam University eLearning subscription?

The Veeam University eLearning subscription is a new approach to consume training that Veeam is implementing to provide partners and customers with subscription-based access to a comprehensive suite of courses.

This subscription is designed to enhance participants’ knowledge and skills in Veeam products and solutions.

Why is Veeam University delivering eLearning by subscription?
The primary goals of the subscription model provide training participants with flexibility, and democratize access to training, making it more affordable and accessible for partners and customers and empower them with the skills needed to design, deploy, and operate Veeam Enterprise Data Resilience Solutions at scale, and minimizing costs for maximum ROI.
Are the instructor-led training courses still available?
Veeam Backup & Replication: Configure, Manage, and Recover training is still available instructor-led and delivered by Veeam Authorized Education Centers (VMAECs) and led by Veeam Certified Trainers (VMCTs) only. The rest of the trainings are just available on demand via elearning subscription.
Are the self-paced courses delivered by Veeam?
Self-paced courses are available through our Veeam Authorized Education Center Tsunati and they are distributed through our channel of distribution.
Where can I locate the list of instructor led Veeam Authorized Education Center (VMAEC)?
Veeam offers a wide network of VMAECs across the globe. You may search for your closest VMAEC location here.
Are courses available in different languages?
Veeam instructor-led courses are provided primarily in English, but classes are often delivered in the local language. Veeam on-demand trainings are only available in English.
Can I prepare and take only the exam, without attending a course?
To qualify to take any of Veeam certification exams, you must attend a pre-requisite class delivered by a Veeam Authorized Education Center (VMAEC) or complete the on-demand self-paced training available online.
Will the class cover everything I need to pass the exam?
Veeam training courses cover a wide array of content. However, it is expected that you have a minimum of six months of commercial experience with Veeam prior to taking our courses. Please review the exam study guide provided for further insight and resources.
I want to attend the Veeam Certified Security Expert (VMCSE) bundle trainings. Do I need to take the Veeam Backup & Replication: Configure, Manage and Recover (VMCE) course beforehand?
The Veeam Backup & Replication: Configure, Manage, and Recover course is highly recommended before attending the VMCSE bundle, as this provides a valuable foundation for the VMCSE courses but not required. However, obtaining the VMCE certification (retired December 31st 2025) is a hard requirement to obtain the VMCSE certification.
How do I book a certification exam?
  1. Once you have completed the required training course, log into your Veeam account. If you do not have an account, register for one using the email you used when booking your course.
  2. Go to the certification tab.
  3. Select your desired exam on Step 2 and click “MANAGE ... EXAM” to schedule the exam.
  4. For first-time users who do not have a Pearson VUE account, you will see a “Create Pearson VUE Account” page pop up.
  5. Fill in all required information.
  6. Confirm that all information is accurate and make sure your name matches your identification exactly.
  7. Click "Confirm and Continue", which will automatically sign you into your Pearson VUE account.
  8. Follow the instructions on the Pearson VUE scheduling page.
Which exams are currently available?
At the moment, the VMCA certification is available, but please note it will be retired on November 30th. The VMCE certification will be retired December 31st 2025.
The VMCSE exam, as well as the new VMCE-E exam, will be available first half of 2026.
How much time will I get to take the exam?
Candidates are given 75 minutes to sit the VMCE (retired December 31st, 2025) exam, and 110 minutes to sit the VMCA exam (retired November 30th, 2025). If English is not the local language, we offer a 15-minute extension. Other Accommodations are also eligible for extended time.
What languages can I take the exam in?
VMCE v12 (retired December 31st, 2025) is available in English (US), Japanese, and Chinese (simplified).
VMCSE and VMCE-E (available in 2026) and VMCA (retired November 30th, 2025) are available in English only.
How many questions are on the exam?
There are 60 questions on the VMCE exam (retired December 31st 2025) and 50 questions on the VMCA exam (retired November 30th, 2025).
Why are the exams 10 questions longer than they used to be?
Veeam pilots new test content by seeding 10 unscored questions on each exam delivery. This enables us to gather live test data on the new questions, which is used to verify the quality of the content and to construct fair and reliable test forms when updating the exam.
Why hasn’t the duration of the VMCE exam been extended to allow for the extra questions?
Analysis of VMCE exam delivery data, and the established industry average time of 1.2 minutes to complete the type of questions presented on the VMCE exam, indicate that 75 minutes is enough time for the average test taker to complete a 60-question test form. Further analysis of delivery data from the published VMCE v12 exam forms supports this.
Am I required to attend a class before taking the exam?
You must either attend the relevant instructor-led training or complete the self-paced on-demand course to be able to sit any Veeam certification exam.
How much does the exam cost?
The price varies by country. To get detailed pricing, please contact Pearson VUE directly.
Why do I have to pay extra for the exam?
The exam costs are not included in the course cost because not every course attendee wants to take the exam.
Where can I take a Veeam exam?
Most Pearson VUE test centers offer Veeam exams. You can also sit for the exam from home or in-office with Pearson VUE online proctored platform. Requirements for sitting the exam online can be found here.
I have completed a course and would like to book my exam, but I can’t find it on my profile. Why is this?
Once you have completed the class and your attendance is reported, verified, and uploaded, the course will show as complete. However, this process can take up to five business days. If you still can’t see the completion verification after this time period, please let us know. Your region’s support email address can be found in the “Contacts” section below.
I passed my exam but have not received my certification yet. Why is this?
Once you have completed the class and your attendance is reported, verified and uploaded, the course will show as complete. However, this process can take up to five business days. If you still can’t see the completion verification after this time period, please let us know. Your region’s support email address can be found in the “Contacts” section below.
Can I take the exam immediately after attending the required course?
You may take the exam as soon as your course attendance is verified. We do, however, recommend you spend 30 days reviewing the material after completing the course for the best chance of exam success.
How do I reschedule or cancel an exam?

If you wish to reschedule or cancel your exam, you may do this online via your account and follow the instructions below, or contact the Pearson VUE customer service team at least 48 hours before your scheduled exam appointment. NOTE: Rescheduling or cancelling less than 48 hours before your appointment will result in forfeiting your exam fee. To cancel or reschedule an exam online:

  1. Log into your Veeam account.
  2. Go to the certification tab.
  3. Select your desired exam and click “MANAGE ... EXAM” which will automatically sign you into your Pearson VUE account.
  4. Select either "cancel" or "reschedule".
I did not pass the exam. When can I retake it?

There is a 24-hour waiting period after the first failed attempt and a 14-calendar day waiting period after the second through the fourth failed attempt. After the fifth failed attempt, there is a 12-month waiting period, or a request can be submitted with prior permission from the Veeam operations team at vmce@veeam.com. After the candidate has waited 12 months, they can take the exam for attempt six through nine. After that, candidates must wait 12 months again, or submit a request and obtain permission from the Veeam VMCE security team.

If an exam is failed, and the exam is subsequently retired, no retake option will be available.

Once a candidate has passed an exam, the exam cannot be retaken until a new major exam revision is released.

I want to sit for the VMCA exam, do I need to have passed the VMCE exam beforehand?
The VMCE certification (retired December 31st 2025) is strongly recommended before taking the VMCA exam (retired November 30th, 2025), but it is not a hard requirement. The VMCA exam (retired November 30th, 2025) tests knowledge of architecture and design. An understanding of the key features, concepts and configuration tested in the VMCE exam is extremely useful.
How will I get my exam results?

There are three ways that you can meet the pre-requisites needed to sit for the Veeam exams:

  • Attend the pre-requisite training course

  • Have sat for the previous pre-requisite training course

When available, we highly recommend completing any bridge courseware when you upgrade between versions to help you better prepare. For more details on upgrading your certification, see the upgrades tab above.

What is the best way to update my certification?
Holders of the previous certification (current version – 1) can update their certification by sitting the latest version of the exam. Veeam will provide you with an Exam Study Guide via the certification page to help you prepare for the exam.
