4 tips for delivering Availability in the Hybrid Cloud

The Digital Transformation of business is driving IT to evolve in order to satisfy flexible business processes and requirements, which lately involves more and more heterogeneous production systems. Modern IT environments are not limited to physical servers, but also operate on virtual machines and store data offsite, in the cloud. Today organizations are running a mixture of technologies (with virtualization as the prevailing standard) that need to be available 24.7.365. This is not a straightforward task – trust me!

So, what matters the most when looking to address modern organizations’ protection issues? In a recent study, ESG highlighted four important features:

  1. Service Level Agreements (SLAs) should lead to the right solution. In the life of an organization, not all servers are running business critical information. This means that some of them can tolerate more downtime than others, due to the workload they carry. ESG advises that heterogeneous systems demand diverse data protection tools to fulfill diverse uptime requirements.

  3. Protecting and ensuring the Availability of modern data centers can be a burden if the upgrade of the IT infrastructure isn’t accompanied by a state-of-the-art data protection solution.
  4.

  5. Modern IT infrastructures are running in what we call today ‘the hybrid cloud’. This means they rely on both physical and virtual resources, but also run cloud-based processes. The ESG report reveals that when IT Executives are seeking an availability solution for such complex mechanisms, agility and flexibility are considered key factors of the solution.
  6.

  7. Orchestration and automation can make the difference between Availability and failure. Production environments are becoming increasingly complex, working across different hypervisors and SLAs. The key is not finding the best backup solution tool, but orchestrating an Availability solution that can recover a complex IT environment in as little time as possible.

When we look at the big picture of everything that surrounds us – smartphones, servers, laptops, the Internet of Things (IoT) and so forth, we realize two things -– they are all diverse and they are useless if they are not available. The Veeam Availability Platform for the Hybrid Cloud is designed to enable Availability for virtual, physical and cloud-based workloads.
